Lots of Hotend heating and cooling before starting print after Firmware 6.4.0 upgrade

Hi,

Since I istalled Firmware 6.4.0 (final) on my XL (5 tools), I notice a lot of Hotend heating and cooling before the printing starts.

Here is a rundown of the activity going on before the actual print (PLA project) starts (Messages on XL display in Bold) :

  1. Home X Y First
  2. Homing (no movement)
  3. Waiting for Hotend (Hotend temp raising up to 170°C)
  4. Homing (Pring bed going up)
  5. Absorbing Heat (Hotend temp goes down to 70°C)
  6. Waiting for Hotend (Temp goest up to 170°C)
  7. Waiting for Hotend (Temp goest up to 215°C) --> Leaving a poo of PLA on the Bed (because the Toolhead is not parked at this stage)
  8. Autoretracting
  9. Waiting for Hotend (Temp goest down to 170°C) --> I use this cooling period to remove the PLA poo produced at step 7
  10. Nozzle Cleaning (Nozzle touches the Bed)
  11. Probing Bed (x/25) --> For the used portion of the Bed
  12. Additional probing (x/10) --> along the Bed front edge then Toolhead is parked
  13. Waiting fot Hotend (Temp goes up to 230°C)
  14. Then the print job starts...

I find step #7 particularly useless (besides the fact that it leaves a filament residue on the Bed)

If step #7 is necessaray, the Toolhead shoud be parked at this stage...

Is this a normal behavior?

Thanks in advancc for your help!

Is this behavior generally annoying to you and does it take too long? Or can you live with it?

I don't even notice it. With th big bed, most of the time is spent on heat absorption and probing the bed. The rest is minutia.

There may be an option in the settings to turn off auto-retracting (like I believe on the Core One) but I have not checked myself.

Thank you for your reply!

I can live with the delay (~10 mins. befor print job starts) but I find step #7 (Waiting for Hotend (Temp goest up to 215°C) --> Leaving a poo of PLA on the Bed (because the Toolhead is not parked at this stage)) annnoying...

You can customize the start G-code in PrusaSlicer according to your preferences. (It's not difficult.)The sequence after the start of printing on the XL also confused me a lot after the update to 6.4.0. Sure, Prusa certainly has its reasons for doing it this way, but I know that it can be done faster without compromising quality.Everyone decides what they think is right 🙂
