input-shaping .. how..

Sorry for the noob-question, but do you need to use a specific profile or specific settings when printing with the XL to be using input shaping?
Or do all XL-profiles in PrusaSlicr have input-shaping included?

RE: input-shaping .. how..

You can install both configs for the XL IS and non-IS versions and compare the two in the slicer.

Other than obvious accel and feedrate changes there are a couple M593 commands to enable IS. So without doing actual testing, I'd say you do need to use an IS printer profile to do IS things.

Filament IS/nonIS profiles seem to just be a temperature difference.

Another thing I'm wondering: wasn't it said that sensors are built into the extruders and the printer measures the required values?I haven't noticed that my printer has done any vibration tests and calibrated itself. As I have it standing on different feet, the values should be different from a printer with standard feet.

So I learned that you need to "install" a second printer in Prusaslic3r: the InputShaping XL.

I did not knew that. Was this announced somewhere? I wonder where I missed it.

Info is usually on the release page on Github whenever new versions of things come out.

Like with the MK4 they make settings based on stock configs at their factory and just release that setting out for everyone.

RE: input-shaping .. how..

I have now done a few tests and compared the print quality and ringing with and without input shaping while my XL is standing on these feet: Since Prusa specifies a value in the firmware, I assumed that the printer would determine completely different values for input shaping with these feet for noise reduction.

You can't really see it in the photos, as there is generally no heavy ringing, but my test shows that there is more ringing with input shaping than without.I printed this vase, same wall speed. Without IS 30 minutes, with IS 26 minutes and this ringing test with different speeds.

Left IS, right without.

I hope that Prusa will soon give us the possibility to calibrate IS ourselves.

RE: input-shaping .. how..

Don't know if this is relevant to the XL, but I have an MK4, and input shaping is clearly a work in process.  It works for PETG

(Up to a certain height), but then I get major layer shifting.  I have reported the problem on Github.

Also, input shaping really screws up when I print carbon fiber stuff.  I have to use the non-input shaping printer profiles to get decent prints.

Just saying.

Please report this to the Github Prusa 32 bit projects.  Otherwise, It may NEVER get done.
