Filament feed gear not turn in tool head
My #1 tool stopped feeding filament. I opened the tension door, did an unload/load/purge, etc and the gear is never moving. I can manually turn it so it does not appear to be jammed.
Any ideas?

First check all your wires something may be loose.
Next you can swap the wires on the big board in the back temporally between 1 & 2 to see if that does anything different. Of course tool picking won't work.
Next.. you could do a printer full reset. Of course then you have to do ALL the calibrations again.
I have heard in other strange cases that this fixes weird problems.
Or you can call support and have them tell you to do that 🙂

lol...after I read your post, I realized I hadn't even tried to do a reset after all my testing.
Yep...just a straight reset seems to have fixed it. Thanks!

Well I spoke too soon. It barely got through one layer and stopped again. I shall try swapping the cables - great idea.

Same problem here.... only happen on position 1.
Position 2 works well...
I swap head 2 to position 1 and same problem... the head 1 on position 2 works well... so definitively position 1 is the problem.
RE:
FWIW
After all the testing and swapping with support multiple times, I finally got a couple of replacement cables. I went ahead and ordered 3 more. Sure enough, the new cables fixed my issues. A week later a different tool got it half way through a print. I replaced that cable. It seems to have fixed it so far. As soon as the rest come in, I will replace the other two.
Bottom line: It seems to me that the issue has busted the cables - makes sense given the pressure/angles were crimping it. I think PRUSA really owed me 3 more cables but honestly, it wasn't worth the constant 'swap this, test this' that I would go through with each new support person. I have been fighting this for months and went out of warranty during it. Easier to just buy 3 more cables than continue to lose prints.
If all else fails, replace the cables.
I love my XL 5T and PRUSA but I really wish there was voice support. $4K+ on a printer....
Just my .02.
RE: Filament feed gear not turn in tool head
Hello everyone,
I have similar problems with my XL printer.
I initially ordered one with two tools. With this version, I always got these messages on the first tool that the filament needed to be replaced.
After installing the upgrade to 5 tools, I swapped the first two tools to positions 4 and 5. The printer has been running without any problems for several months now.
For the past two weeks, the first tool has started having problems again, asking for the filament to be replaced mid-print. All the other tools work perfectly. So it can't be the cable set, but there must be a problem somewhere else.
But where - that's the interesting question.
RE: Filament feed gear not turn in tool head
Yes, this morning I calibrated the filament sensor and also calibrated the parking position of tool 1.
I also greased all the mounting points, as Prusa recommends.
I gave the Filament channel some air, and so far it's working again.
