Extruder wheel skipping/slipping!

Min searching this Forum but can't find else that has it problem?! I have it on both my extruders.

The printer works fine for maybe 10-60min. Then the extruder wheels start sleeping on the filament. So you can see that it's been digging a small grove in the filament.

To fix it I have to unload filament and load new one. Then the problem repeat itself...

  • I have the latest software.
  • Tried different filament.
  • Now it is Pla.
  • Tried increasing the temperature to make the filament softer.
  • Put a new nozzle in one of the extruder.

None of this helpt.

The printer doesn't notice this issue so it keeps on printing but no filament comes out of the nozzle.

I kind of get the feeling that the temperature at the nozzle isn't stable. So after a while maybe the temperature gets lower and this makes the filament to hard to press out?!

En Ivan else has similar issue or know what to do?

Big thanks!

RE: Extruder wheel skipping/slipping!

There are multiple threads discussing this.  Most likely your idler door on the extruder has deformed and lost preload.  Do you have an enclosure?  Usually people with this issue have an enclosure and at some point it got too hot in the enclosure leading to this issue.

If this is the case reprint the idler door and latch with PCCF and that should fix it.

Thanks for info!

Could you link to any threads?

I included a picture now as well. If there's not enough preload than I can't understand the marks on the filament.

RE: Extruder wheel skipping/slipping!

They're are about the extruder stopping.  There are a few different reasons this was happening to people, one of them is what your experiencing, while another was an issue with the plugs on the buddy board.

You're specific example is most likely caused by the deformation of the idler door.  The XL was originally built with those parts being PETG.  All of the new printers come with PCCF parts, and if you added the Prusa enclosure, the build instructions have you change these parts to PCCF.

You can get the STL files from the printable XL parts on printables.com, and you can look thru the Prusa XL enclosure instructions to find out how to change the parts.    https://www.printables.com/model/449554-xl-printable-parts

Here's a link to one thread, but be aware that there are multiple different issues going on here for multiple different people.  In your case specifically because you're extruder motor is not stopping I think your issue is the idler door.
