After replacing two buddy boards, I was still seeing the issue happening. I was watching "Monkey Brains Designs" video with all of his issues and saw the one that he fixed his XL by reprinting the cable connector. I then found that mod and installed them.
It's an ongoing process.

Download the file and give it a test, your faulty extruders might just start working again.
i'm having the same problem, i cant even rely on any of the 5 tool changes as the problem occurs aleatory, on mine it normally stops after the first layer, but i had some cases that on multi colour, one or more extruders don't even work, making a spaghetti mess.
on those last two months, has been just a waist of money trying to print with this printer, i'm unfortunately relying on two kobra 3, not the same quality prints, but enough to have the parts done for my home business.

I got the files, it’s printing right now in black ABS on my QIDI X-MAX3 due heat chamber to avoid it to warp.

My third multi color print finished without any issues and looks perfect. unfortunately I’m at work and can’t upload a photo. I’ll do some more testing over the weekend. The issue might be resolved!

Printed out the modified connectors. THANK YOU JIM!! This fixed the problem and all prints since modification have been flawless. I printed out the parts in Prusament PETG (Orange...I was out of black). I used the M3x16 Torx head cap screws that I had left over from the XL build instead of set screws as designed. I'm quite pleased. Thank you again, I will post the pictures to the printables site to get the designer due credit.

So just to get this right: You need to print some new parts on your own for a 3-5k Euro printer just to get it working? Seems very strange to me.

This is the whole point and spirit of open design and contributes to keeping the printer price so low.
... but having written that I haven't encountered this problem so I don't need the fix.

Wasn't ment to snark. Just to verify if I got this right, because it sounded unbelievable. You have to use a third party solution for a common problem that prusa wasn't able to fix on their own.
