Constant failures after 6 or 8 layers being printed

I'm having a repeating issue on multiple tools where the printer will layout down a perfect say 10 layers and then stop feeding filament - but continue printing.

If I try to unload the filament, the wheel in the tool doesn't turn.

I reset the machine and now unload works.

This is becoming a serious constant issue where I have no idea if my print is going to fail.

I'd say it's a tool issue but I can literally do nothing except reset and it works, maybe.   It happens on more than one tool.

Anyone else seeing this?

I have just had it happen again.

Literally, it printed about 4mm worth of layers and then filament stopped feeding as it continued to try to print.

I hit stop.   I tried to purge the tool.  It _says_ it's purging but nothing comes out.

I hit the reset button.   I immediately tell it to purge.  It works.

I have had this happen on at least two different tools now.   Something is screwed in the code - there's no way this is a mechanical issue.

RE:

does it chew into the filament and leaves a half moon bite mark, like the filament was slipping on the feed gear?

what firmware version?

No, I actually made a video of it for support.  I opened the tool while it was printing.  The gear isn't moving.    I also attempt to purge after I stop the print and the gear isn't moving.  Hit reset...now purge works.   They think there may be an issue with the board.

a lot of buddy boards are failing so it is possible that is the issue.

If one of the drivers has gone flakey then it might be working ok when it starts but as it warms up during the print it suddenly stops working.

that would explain the feeder stopping.

i wonder if you removed the back cover and put a fan blowing cold air over the boards if it would keep going.

I actually have a fan installed on it but it does get warm in the room it's in.
