Canceled Object Dwell Bug

While running a multipart (about 16 different things) multitool (all 5 heads with different PLA colors) print, I chose to cancel one of the multicolor objects because I had mistakenly setup a very time consuming ironing configuration for it. The cancellation seemed to be fine except that the printer would often (apparently only after a tool change to one of the objects colors) dwell over the canceled object for a few seconds. It almost seemed like it went to the starting point but remembered that it shouldn’t print and then had to sit there until it found the next gcode command that it should print. This became an issue because while dwelling the hotend would ooze, then when it decided to start printing again there was a semi cooled blob of filament dangling off the hot end ready to collide with other objects. So far it hasn’t resulted in any failures of the print for me (still a while yet to complete). However I could see this causing thin objects or those with poor bed adhesion to break loose and cascade into a much larger failure.

I don’t know of what the best fix might be, but one solution could be performing a wipe after this dwell scenario. Or if that isn’t an option perhaps have a safety wipe setting in the slicer that just adds wipes that aren’t tagged to a particular object after each object’s layer. Sure it would add a bit of extra time but I suspect there are people who would gladly make that trade for higher print success rates.
