RE: 5T XL - Bring back the old bed leveling

I had the same problem! It cost me hours with Prusa support, and I ruined my new PA sheet with version 6.4.0. After rollback to 6.2.6, it was fine again. I'm waiting for a new firmware update. In my case, printing with satin sheets wasn't a problem.

Title: Second time having to downgrade 5T XL from 6.4.1 back to 6.2.6 — This is getting ridiculous

Post body:

This is now the second time I’ve had to roll back my 5-tool Prusa XL from firmware 6.4.x to 6.2.6.

First upgrade 6.4.0 → constant nozzle cleaning failures. Second upgrade 6.4.1→ bed leveling failures that make the printer almost unusable for anything larger than a small part.

I clean the nozzles properly, I do dock calibrations, tool offsets, the whole routine — and it still fails on basic bed leveling that used to work flawlessly on 6.2.6.

6.2.6 has been rock solid for me. 6.4.1 is not. At this point the 6.4 branch feels like it was rushed and poorly tested on the 5-tool XL.

Prusa — the firmware team really needs to get their act together on the XL. This is your flagship multi-tool printer and multiple 5T owners are stuck on old firmware because the new one is unreliable. This level of regression is not acceptable for a $4k+ machine.

Anyone else still stuck on 6.2.6 because of these issues?

RE: 5T XL - Bring back the old bed leveling

I'm having the same issue with 6.4.1 with a 2-tool XL but only when I make a print without changing the filament in tool 1: bed leveling frequently fails when there is filament residue on tool 1, especially with PETG. As a workaround, I do the following before each print:

  1. Preheat nozzle for the print tool 1
  2. Pick Tool 1
  3. Brush the warm nozzle with a wire brush
  4. Park current tool
  5. Cool nozzle
  6. Start print

Note that this process is not necessary if I change the filament in tool 1: filament purge eliminates stringing that interferes with bed leveling.

Also note that I use OctoPrint. Not sure if this occurs when printing directly to the printer.

Same issues for me. I am having bed leveling be mm too low for first layer. Have needed to rise z by 1.4 after probing.

Downgrading fixed it for me.

Have you tried adding a nozzle wiper to your XL?  there are options for "in the back" that will wipe the nozzle every time it is docked/undocked.  there are also options that put a wiper at the front of the y motion and an option for putting a wiper on the bed basically between the tabs of the plate.

Except for the option that puts one in the back of the printer, the others will require a bit added to the start routine of the print.  the options i have seen include the gcode to add, but always check that before trusting it completely.

  1. If you are talking about the wipe tower for multiple filaments, then yes, this is with the wipe tower

I wasn't aware of the mod to make a nozzle wiper. That might just work. Thanks for the pointer.

it is more of a "bandaid" if anything.  but if you mod your startup sequence right it could stop the spotting on the buildplate.  may not do anything to the homing fail though.

RE: 5T XL - Bring back the old bed leveling

I have the single tool version but the bed probing/leveling issue has been the most frustrating part. It got to the point the printer was almost unusable. I've reflashed, and downrev'd and then uprev'd and it would work fine for like a day and then back to the bed probe failures.

That is until I accidently found a weird bug or work around:

I noticed when I switched to the "Tune" menu to adjust the nozzle temp on the fly as the probing started it started probing correctly and blasted right through probing without issue. It's a goofy thing but it has worked everytime for me. You just need to be in the "Tune" menu, you don't need to adjust the temp or anything.

Currently on 6.4.1+12026 firmware.

Hope this helps someone else.

Worked for me as well.   That was the sad point I made in the original point.   It should not be that way.

RE: 5T XL - Bring back the old bed leveling

Upgrading it to 6.4.2 and got past the issue of bad bed leveling. 6.4.1 failed, 6.2.6 good, 6.4.2 good
