Issue with Belt Rubbing on Prusa XL
Hi everyone,
I’m reaching out for help or opinions regarding my Prusa XL Dual. I’ve encountered a problem where the belt at the rear near the extruders is rubbing against a screw. To make matters worse, the belt seems to run directly over this screw.
Initially, I didn’t notice this issue, but I started having continuous print problems. After some troubleshooting, I discovered that the belt was already heavily damaged from the rubbing. When comparing with another photo I found online (look at this post: https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-xl-tool-changer-general-discussion-announcements-and-releases/tool-crash-problem-fixed/), it seems like these screws are positioned much higher on other machines.
I’m confused about how this could happen. Did I miss something during assembly, or could this be a manufacturing issue?
Has anyone else experienced this? I plan to contact Prusa support, but I’d love to hear if someone else has faced and resolved a similar problem.
There should be clearance between the belt and the structure. To confirm the rubbing point(s) cut a strip of paper and hold it between the belt and nut/bolt end while the belt is moving.
Try to establish the extent and length of damage to the belt, look for short sections with excessive wear or is the damage roughly even throughout its extent.
My first suspicion is a collapsed pulley bearing - you may hear grating noises from one corner ...
Yes, contact support by chat, the first thing they will ask for is the serial number on the back of the machine. Be ready to supply photos, video, and possibly audio files.
Good luck, let us know what is/was the cause.
Cheerio,
