Crash detection

I kept getting crash detections… so turned it off.

To my surprise when you turn off Crash Detection, the XL homes X and Y after every toolchange! I can guess someone who thinks they know better thought that without crash detection it could go out of register so they make it do the homing. Bad idea. Prusa hubris. That’s not what I as a user want. I want to turn the automation off. After I stopped the print I dug down into the settings and set the crash detection to min and the issue went away, but again Prusa seems to think they know better, but (at least for me) they do not.

RE: Crash detection

i have never had a good experience with prusa's crash detection system going all the way back to the first MK3 machine.

each time i try it out on a new machine it causes more problems then it is worth.

on my XL i first tried it enabled. what resulted was constant false crashes where the object being printed would sit for hours while i was away, i would come back and the part would be warped from sitting for so long and the way the nozzle carrier would stay over the bed would cause a massive blob to form.

it just led to endless failures and a print that should take an hour taking hours.

turned it back off like every other prusa i tried it on and 1/2 my problems instantly went away.

of course if there was a real crash damage might occur but in over 8 years of 3d printing that happened once and it was a quick repair anyway.

RE:

Just my opinion…

I prefer to do my setup to minimize any crashing to begin with… such as z hopping, ensuring optimal extrusion rates, and making sure the part prints securely on the bed. The added automation has definitely been getting in the way. This is one aspect of the E3d which is way better than the XL. No automation at all, no sensors to calibrate and it just prints.
