Advice to print with a .1 nozzle?

Hello,

I've just installed the Nextruder V6 nozzle adapter with a .1 nozzle on one tool of the XL 2T.

What advice would you give to have successful prints with this diameter?

The first layer seems to be more difficult than usually. PLA adheres less and the nozzle easily grabs lines printed already. Maybe should I use some glue?

I had to slow down the speed for first layer to 5mm/sec. Also, the supports generated by PrusaSlicer don't seem to be totally compatible with the .1 nozzle (this was pointed out in a video from CNC Kitchen already but I thought this might have changed. It hasn't).

Printing with a 0.1mm nozzle can achieve incredible detail but requires precise settings. Here are some tips:

1. Layer Height: Use a layer height around 0.05 to 0.07mm to maintain print quality.2. Print Speed: Reduce speed significantly, around 20-30mm/s, for better accuracy.3. Temperature: Adjust the nozzle temperature slightly higher to accommodate slower speeds.4. Flow Rate: Calibrate and decrease the flow rate to prevent over-extrusion.5. Cooling: Ensure adequate cooling to prevent detail smudging.6. Filament Quality: Use high-quality, consistent-diameter filament.7. Calibration: Regularly calibrate your machine and check for any clogs or issues.

Patience and fine-tuning are key to mastering such fine prints. Good luck!

Hello,

Thank you for the advice. I have already started with layers of 0.05mm.  I have printed with speed between 10 and 20mm/s. However I have noticed it is almost impossible to make the PLA adhere to the bed with such thin layers. I've had better results with a raft of PETG below. However a very long print failed because the nozzle dragged the PLA out of the raft.

As for the temperature, I've done the opposite as your advice, following Stefan Hermann (in this CNC Kitchen YouTube's video): as the speed print is low, the filament remains in the hotend much longer and doesn't need the usual temperatures, lower ones are recommended.

Besides flow rate, which I still need to improve, cooling is really an issue with layers of 0.05mm. It can easily make the parts really fragile because of poor layer adhesion. But if it's too low you can get stringing.

Maybe PETG would't have this layer adhesion issue but I am a bit afraid to use the .1mm nozzle with this material because I think it has more chances to obstruct the nozzle than PLA.
