RE: 5 head semi/assembled shipping window?

Took 6 days but finally got it today, it's one really heavy box (70 lbs) and one smaller one for the extra heads.

Posted by: @xilni

New timetable:

  • 2021/11/18: Preorder
  • 2023/09/22: Full payment made
  • 2023/10/06: Shipping

There's a little gap between the full payment and shipping it seems.

This gives me hope that MAYBE I'll get "the email" soon.   11/18/2021 preorder of fully assembled 5 extruder XL.   Still waiting.

And got a shipment order from Prusa and DHL a couple of days ago.  It is in Germany now on its way to CVG.  Comments about clearing/pre-clearing customs, hope that it doesn’t get hung up for its delivery date on Monday.  I got spools of Prusament PLA to test out the 5 head set up with  Prusa materials.

And for all my bitching, I finally got the 'switching'/completion email last night.  Paid it and got an email confirming the payment.  I've got some travel in the next two weeks, so hopefully it will be on its way to me by the end of the month.

OK, my order number is 16372452XX.  I think this is the only really relevant number.  I can understand that people don’t want to reveal their order number, but frankly, the last three digits are not that Important- a few minutes at most.  Just anonymize the last few digits.

Epochconverter.com

So my order is 2:20pm ish.  5 head semi.  Last week they said it would be weeks before my order would ‘switch’.

Sounds like I’m getting screwed…

- I orderd on 18.November 2021 15:15  (1 Head semi)  Order Nr. is about 1637248500 +/- 🙂

- the "your order is ready" mail came on 29. june 2023

- I was able to switch from 1 to 5 head on 18. september (until then it was not possible), paid the same day

- The Trackingnr. was generated on 27. september

- The package was collected today by DHL

- Time of delivery should be 5. Oktober

RE:

my understanding is it means customs is reviewing the shipping documentation.    I received same notice.    Didn't seem to hold things up for my delivery in the US.  I did get a lot of dhl updates that had slightly helpful info like this.   23 in total over 5 days.

Watch for the one where they ask you to pay the customs fee.    I got that request  a day before delivery, paid it online a couple hours after the request was sent.

I don't want to spoil anyone's fun but man, with all the nasty issues reported here I really hope they'll delay my order for another year or two. Assuming everything can be fixed until then. If I had to make the call today, I would have to cancel...

RE: 5 head semi/assembled shipping window?

I'm a day one preorder and I'll be honest I was thinking the same.  Last time I spoke to support, like a month ago, it was "second half of Oct" for my fully assembled 5 extruder xl.   It's hard to get excited now seeing all these issues.   I've been super happy with my two MK4s that I recently upgraded using MK3S -> MK4 kits.  I'll probably give it until the end of the month.  Then I'll decide if I want to cancel or not.  During the upgrade process I excised the MMU2 from one of my printers.  It's pretty sad when I'm considering an MMU3 again.   I came to an understanding with the MMU2S and it mostly worked.   I guess I wouldn't mind either if they delayed the XL to do more refinements at this point.   I thought the long wait from preorder was to do all these refinements lol  I'm curious what all the beta testers found in their months of testing.

Oh well, If I get my email to pay before the end of the month I'm just going to bite the bullet and complete my order and roll the dice lol

My 5H XL is due to arrive today. I think it will be delayed though due to bad weather in the UK. I'll post my findings once it's up and running. I have 3 x MK3s with MMU2S for multi colour prints. I want the XL for larger multi colour prints so I will be putting it through its paces and comparing to the current printers.

RE: 5 head semi/assembled shipping window?

be sure to keep us all posted.   I mainly wanted the XL for the larger volume and the ability to do soluble supports with more filament types than PLA.   While I have gotten PETG to work with PETG, the adhesion on the wipe tower was always problematic because of the differences in temp at the nozzle.  I was also hoping to try things like using PLA for the supports and then BVOH for the support interfaces for prints that use TPU.   those things are all out of the realm of possibility with the MMU in my opinion.   for straight color switches and PLA + BVOH for soluble, the MMU mostly works, or at least I had it working pretty well.

RE: 5 head semi/assembled shipping window?

At the price point of the XL5 I expect a reasonably long/large footprint/high test print and there can be absolutely no fiddling for the first 60 or so spools. Support must be spot-on. If it fails a test print it should not leave the factory, period. Personally I can only afford the time to work on my models, but not on the printer. Of course we don't know the fraction of users that have problems, but with not so many printers in the wild yet my impression so far is catastrophic. I wish you the best, hope you get a good one if you decide to pull the trigger.

RE: 5 head semi/assembled shipping window?

The very nature of the XL means they can't test them in the factory as even the assembled ones aren't fully assembled. I agree though, there seems to be a big gap in their in house testing for the print issues to be so basic. Also, 2 years in the making..... longer as they should have developed the XL way before they announced it.... yet, they have missing features like mixing nozzles sizes in prints. These are what people want and expect from a tool changer.

RE:

Well if it's clearly only missing software features I could live with it, knowing and trusting it will eventually come. I ordered a kit, so of course test printing would be limited, but they could at least test print the extruder assembly. It's an easily automated process. Honestly the amount of assembly required for the assembled printers seems like a joke, and if QC on these cannot be trusted what's the point. My point being not so much the time invested, but the fact that a lot of the customers buying these will not have the skill or understanding to do it properly. It would be way easier to troubleshoot a kit you built yourself. Fully assembled means ready-to-print in my book, and if that means it's shipped on a palette then so be it.

Totally agree with all of that. I too hope any issues are firmware/software.

Has anyone received their email from the shipping update from last week? It's friday and getting late in europe, so i was wondering which week they were talking about. I preordered a 5 tool on 11/18 FWIW.

I have not heard anything yet as well. I wonder if anyone has?
Sure makes one wonder what is going on. A lot of reports about abysmal quality and quality control etc delays and now even delays on this latest update (re: we were suppose to get emails to complete orders for the so called shipping table to be created.)
Maybe it is getting time to re think this dream the XL will ever be out and WORKING properly?

RE: 5 head semi/assembled shipping window?

With all the reports of issues and quality problems, I am starting to feel a little guilty.  I received my 5H XL semi-assembled on the 2nd and had it running by the weekend.  I have been running it fairly constantly since then and have not had any issues.  The startup is a bit slow with the "heat absorption", but that is really just several minutes.

From the reports I am seeing, most are coming from people that bought fully assembled printers.  I am wondering if the issues are similar from people who bought semi-assembled printers.  The semi-assembly procedure is definitely not difficult, but there could be issues with internal assembly or shipping damage.  Just a thought.
