RE: Stringing Issues

I only just built my XL and was having this stringing issue as well but then I flashed the 5.1.0 alpha firmware and started using prusa slicer 2.7.0 alpha with the specific input shaper profile.  I don't seem to have the stringing issues anymore.  I didn't change any temperatures or settings, all default.  I'm mainly been doing a soluble support (aquatek) with Prusament PLA.  Seem to work great.

RE:

New configuration update in Prusa Slicer for the XL, says it reduces temperatures for some filaments for 0.6mm. It's a start.

RE:

My PLA temps are identical for pre/post update at 215C.  I think they must have changed the behavior on swapping extruders at it always seems to translate over to the tower now before lifting when it does an extruder change.

I think yall might be making it too complicated by messing with the temperatures and retractions.  I think it was just the lift behavior like 3Dprintdogs had found and posted a workaround for.

RE: Stringing Issues

Prusament PLA now prints at 210c (used to be 215c) so it looks like the new config has changed that.

Amazing that Prusa let this gcode out of the door let alone include it on their flagship printer. They can’t have tuned or fully tested the XL based on this

May give my Filament Tuning a try.
With the latest Config Update in 2.7 Alpha and the Alpha FW for the XL.

I increased retract and Hob and so on.

RE: Stringing Issues

I do wonder how much those long bowden tubes impact retractions. Having to push filament back through the bowden and filament sensor isn't easy. There's a small amount of slack in the tubes but maybe 4OD 3ID tubes would help.

This Prusa Blog post concerning the MMU3/MK4 problems might also solve some of the stringing issues of the XL

RE: Stringing Issues

I read the blog post.
sigh… At the risk of p******” off yet more people here…

Generalizing any effects seen on a Mendel to a corexy setup with a completely different extruder system is probably a mistake in the extreme.
I don’t get serious stringing AT ALL! I admit I get very faint wisps of PETG but these I get on just about all machines and they are so slight they don’t cause blobs or crashes. Prusa completely ignored the requirements of prime/wipe. While they accidentally designed a nozzle that actually is ideal for toolchanging with the integrated thermal tube to the nozzle which allows one to pull almost all the material out of the melt zone when the tool parks, they seem to be completely clueless about it! Otherwise they would have known they still need to wipe and they need to modify how the retraction on tool disable needs to work away from the print rather than right on the print. I’ve been trying to tell them this since the xl was announced, but if it’s not invented by Prusa, they ignore.

This print also looks very good:

But we do not know, what kind of post processing was done. I hope Joel will post some other XL multicolour prints, where he could share the printer settings / gcode.

RE:

I have no stringing issues with Verbatim PLA and 3DJake EcoPLA, but Prusament PETG has huge stringing issues and it clumps up on the nozzle. Also tried Generic PETG profile, no change. Prusament PETG was a brand new spool, even drying it didn't help.

Edit: 2-head XL with firmware 4.7.2 and PrusaSlicer 2.6.1

The video which is mentioned in this comment explains the gcode modification:

RE: Stringing Issues

This post on X/twitter from Filament frenzy shows the tool change (during an awesome print). What is noticed by someone in the comments is that there's a wipe before printing and a small wipe as the tool returns. How would that be added as I don't think it's standard?

RE: Stringing Issues

I just found that tip that seems to work. I haven't tried it yet as my printer is in its way. Buy I kept that link for reference. The result looks good.

RE: Stringing Issues

Are there spaces in the Gcode? I used spaces and this locked up the printer

RE: Stringing Issues

New beta version of PS. It seeks to address the stringing issues. My first test print looks much improved. Time for some further test.

RE: Stringing Issues

I have a similar problem,

I could have paid for the XL on 6 November, but didn't because of all the negative reports.

I was also confused by the news that Prusa is now marketing professional printers, and when I see how long it took for the MK4 to do what was promised then the XL will not work as promised for at least 1 year.

Or Prusa withdraws from the home sector and leaves it to Bambu Lab, what then? How do you see it?

RE: Stringing Issues

2nd print is also much improved. I've not even made any of the old recommended changes, just running stock profile. They've definitely improved things.

RE: Stringing Issues

Have they fixed the priming lines being extruded off the edge of the build plate?   I'm not sure how that got missed when this thing was in development lol  Previously I've been into downloading and building PS from source, but as of late I've just opted to stick with the production builds.   if the oozing has been improved it might be worth test drive of the beta you mentioned.
