Recovering from failed flex filament print

I tried printing with some flex filament (older Makerbot branded material) and didn't realize that I needed to use a glue stick layer on the satin steel sheet. I've been able to get much of the material removed from the sheet; however there is still a layer that is somewhat sticky when at room temperature and results in excessive bed adhesion when printing with PLA; I had to heat the bed to ~ 60 degrees in order to remove a test piece printed in PLA on the portion of the bed contaminated with old flex material.

I suspect this side of the sheet is shot, but before I start using the other side, I want to make sure the heating elements are protected. Any thoughts on covering the side of the steel satin sheet that will be in contact with the heating elements with kapton tape?

Also, I'm open to any suggestions on what I might do to remove the remaining coating of flex filament on this sheet.

I use isopropyl alcohol to loosen the bins between filament and the build plate.

Makes prints easier to remove

Thanks Joan, I'll have to try the IPA approach again. I did do a cursory clean earlier in my troubleshooting, but perhaps I should put a bit more effort into that.
