New XL: Pin not reached #17107 on 2. tool

Hi,

I am in the process of setting up my factory assembled 5T XL and ran into a problem with the toolhead offset calibration. The first toolhead finishes just fine, but on the second, I always get the 17107 error. But I can hear and see the nozzle touch the top of the pin. The process for the 2. toolhead looks different then for the 1. The headbed doesn't move up or down after the first touch and the nozzle seems stuck in the middle of the pin. Sometimes it moves again but in the end it is stuck there- Already switched the toolhead to see if it is a problem with just the toolhead, but that didn´t solve the problem.

Really frustrated right now with this almost 5000 Euro machine! Such things just shouldn´t happen in this price range. And to make things worse, support is off for 24h.

After talking to support in the chat tightened all the dock screws. Passed the 2. toolhead, but failed on the 3. On the next try, it failed on 2 again. Don't understand how it can pass one time on tool 2 and fail on the next try.

I had the same problem with the 4 and 5 tool heads. It worked for me after tightening the nozzles. They probably came loose when I put the silicone protection on.

Did you see if the printer restarted before it crashed and beeped? I kept reinstalling the nozzles and redoing the dock alignment calibration test thinking it was a mechanical problem.

Then I realised the printer kept restarting before flashing to the orange screen and beeping. I'd seen this behaviour in PCs when there's a memory leak or software bug. I figured that might be the case so I did a factory reset with firmware I downloaded from the website into the USB although it was supposedly on the newest firmware downloaded through Prusa Connect. They seemed to have different filenames so maybe the Prusa Connect version might not be the same file in their servers.

After that reset, the calibration ran successfully the first time!

Indeed the printer restarted before showing the orange screen. Tried the factory reset and flashed the firmware already; didn't help. Support was out if ideas too. Send it back, waiting for the refund. Considering the needed mods on the extruders for the problem in an other thread (extruder not extruding midprint), it looks like I made the right choice. Maybe order it again on a later date when these mods come factory installed.

Sorry to hear that. I hope you have better luck next time. It really is a great printer when it works.
