Layer line variation
I purchased a used 2H XL from someone (and I know it seemed to print well from the person who gave it to me, based on a test print he gave me and saw print). It sat for a month while I waited for the 5H upgrade, and then I upgraded it and set it up for the first time. On getting Benchy's going, I'm seeing pretty consistent layer variation. It's minor, but very noticeable and not something I've experienced with my Bambu's. I have tried two different filaments, two different nozzles (one of the ones that came in the original 2 heads, and one with one of the new nozzles in the 5th head. I just tried the belt tightening procedure (the squeeze test revealed a little play on one side, and I used the App to tune it to about 90hz. I also lubcricated all the rails via the small holes all over. The one thing I hadn't done yet though was clean/grease the z screws.
Can anyone help me identify some root causes? I had never printed on this before the upgrade, so I'm not sure where to start (and it wasn't new).
RE: Layer line variation
Which Benchy is this? There are too many variants around for easy comparison these days, if it's the Bonkers Benchy from the USB distribution then it's good, very good; if it's the old standard Benchy then, yes, there's some tweaking to do but first put them side by side and look for any consistency.
So, visit https://www.3dbenchy.com/ and make sure you've sliced a standard Benchy with one of the Prusa presets.
Cheerio,
RE: Layer line variation
Thanks for the note. I'll pull down one from that link and retest. The ones I've been printing are this one: https://www.printables.com/model/1145782-openvessel-the-open-source-test-print-boat-not-a-b
That explains some of the differences, by reinventing it the designer made it useless for comparison as it's NOT the file we're used to assessing so we don't know what to expect.
