XL Enclosure fan

Do you know which connector and wires need to be used to make the "enclosure fan" working ? I'd like to ventilate my existing enclosure based on internal XL temperature measurements. Cannot figure it out in the current user/build guide, is it even possible without any additional (e.g. sandwich) board ?

The connector is a 4 circuit Molex Clickmate, available in prepared cable assemblies. This is the 600mm version. The mating receptacle is only available as a board-mounted device, so the XL Enclosure uses two back-to-back receptacles on the sandwich board to extend the blower cable to the Fan1 port. The blower and filter used in the Advanced Filtration System look to be the same as the ones in theXL enclosure.

Does it mean the fan signal/power is provided by the electronics of sandwitch board and is not available directly on the existing boards/connectors? 

Do I need to buy sandwich board to make the fan working?

Sorry for my confusing post 😔 

The existing sandwich board on your XL provides the signals to power and control the fan. The 'XL Enclosure Splitter' board that comes with the XL enclosure provides a convenient place to disconnect the fan when removing the top part of the enclosure, but doesn't alter the signals.

Thank you for the explanation. Is there a link for a wiring diagram? I mean the darf connector pins description resp. connection of fan wires (+, -, signal).

Not that I know of. Likely signals would be Ground, 24V, PWM, Tach. but who knows which signal to which pin?

From the picture in the assembly instructions, it looks like 24v.

Yes, you are right

... but I still need to know what pin is used for, I mean there is a 4 pin connector, i expect to need +and - 24V, tach and PWM, and I need to know what goes where.

Pusa uses a blower fan from Alveo3D, so the pinout is probably the industry standard. GND-24v-Tach-PWM. Checkin with a meter, the GND pin is the bottom one in the picture, so I've guessed at the others:

Well, this is the correct answer, I've tried with some 24V 4 wires noctua fan and it went smooth.

I've had a chat with support and was told there were some temperature limit changes made in the latest firmware; I am getting weird temp errors as the summer starts. They recommended me to switch on the "enclosure" functionality in the printer menu (solution not guaranteed for unoriginal enclosures), switch-on is however not possible as the fan is not spinning. Thanks for your answers.

I've also experienced temp related problems. After searching, I realized that I was not the only one, and ended up with this, which solved my problems on both of my XL:

Thank you, I have the same (board fan) already applied. My enclosure is however just a box covering the whole printer, so the darf board/mcu temperatures raise up even with the externally controlled fan. What's strange I am getting temp errors even at quite low temperatures <70C sometimes and nice part is this error cannot be confirmed even after the temp is already ok, so only off/on the printer is helping.

My idea is to switch-on the enclosure functionality, therefore increase temp limits, which will hopefully stop the temp issue, will see.

Must be a big box!

Anyway I wouldn't do that, as I would expect this solution to give too much heat to a lot of electronic, like power supply or other boards. I would anyway consider to have holes int he box and duct fresh air to the electronic, this would help.

as long as you connect a fan, I guess you'll be able to activate the enclosure abilities, But I don't hink this will help you, as this seems to be a overheat issue, and having enclosure don't change temp limits.

I assembled my enclosure and I'm using the blower fan shown above. That thing can pull up to 12 watts. I want to vent the exhaust out a window, and thought an additional fan would help move the air along a hose. Does anyone know the maximum current supported by the fan header on the Buddy XL? And what connector is that so I can get a splitter?
