Why, oh why, do we need YET ANOTHER set of subforums....
Why not just add ONE "single-to-multi tool upgrade" subforum to the Multi-Tool forums?
The forums are already unwieldy, and many topics get posted in the wrong forum, or topics that have been answered in one forum get raised again in another because no one can keep track.
Keep it simple.

Agreed. There's 18 English-language XL forums, several of which don't even show up on the main listing of English forums. There's dedicated forums just for input shaping which are essentially unused, and the others are hardly busy enough to need splitting up into separate forums...and some of what is there is duplicate discussions of the same topic. The job could be done better with just 5 forums, if that.
RE: Why, oh why, do we need YET ANOTHER set of subforums....
I don't even see why we need separate Multi and Single tool subforums. 90% of questions and issues probably apply to both. Now if there's an XL print bed question I have to post it in 3 forums? 🙂
On this note, is there some difference between a single tool upgraded to multi that I'm not aware of?
I gave up using the forums as designed and simply hit 'Recent Posts'. I may not even check which forum a post is in unless something is ambivalent.
Cheerio,
RE: Why, oh why, do we need YET ANOTHER set of subforums....
Can we get the mods to combine them?
RE: Why, oh why, do we need YET ANOTHER set of subforums....
I agree that there are too many forum categories.
RE: Why, oh why, do we need YET ANOTHER set of subforums....
I agree. It's already a pain having separate single and multi-tool sections. This is a foolish decision.
RE: Why, oh why, do we need YET ANOTHER set of subforums....
@moderators can we combine the XL forums?
RE: Why, oh why, do we need YET ANOTHER set of subforums....
Having a split between single and multi-tool already made it hard to find stuff. This is just ridiculous now :\
RE: Why, oh why, do we need YET ANOTHER set of subforums....
the forum has got pretty useless.
if there would be one XL section it would be much better.
now there is pretty much every thread in 4 subforums. and the usefull information is evenly spread ...
it faster to find information on redit...
RE: Why, oh why, do we need YET ANOTHER set of subforums....
We have specific forums for input shaping, are we going to get more forums for phase stepping and phase stepping + input shaping when 6.0 is released, for every printer that supports them? If input shaping merits separate forums, why not separate versions of every forum for nozzle size and filament type, and whether an enclosure is used? Is it not obvious that this is not a reasonable approach to forum organization?
RE: Why, oh why, do we need YET ANOTHER set of subforums....
How about pushing tags more instead of using subforums? It might be very important for Prusa to categorize posts for some reason. But to not sacrifice the usability of the forums, perhaps mandatory(?) tags for posts can be introduced instead? And perhaps having like three drop-down lists to help users (like "which printer", "hardware / software", etc).

Gathering the 18 English-language XL forums into 5 more active ones could improve discussion and remove duplicate subjects. Focusing on major areas of interest may increase community engagement and impact.
RE: Why, oh why, do we need YET ANOTHER set of subforums....
we have a lot of complaints in this thread, and no one has suggested a better more effective reduced set of sub forums.
there is an opportunity for you all, to make suggestions as to what elements can be merged.
If I am alerted to a better solution, I can pass it on to my Prusa contacts, or, whoever does the work, could copy the suggestions onto the Prusa slicer GitHub pages for consideration

RE:
As the originator of this thread, my primary concern was the creation of a subset of forums just for an upgrade. This particular issue could be easily addressed by adding a single " Assembly and first prints troubleshooting—Upgrade to XL5" subforum to the XL forum. All the other subforums seem to apply equally to any XL, upgraded or not. Along the same vein, I would fold the Mk3.9 forums into the Mk4 forum, with an upgrade subforum, as it's essentially the same machine.
Do we need separate forums for XL single tool and multi tool? Not sure but yes, the extruder is significantly different so one can make a case for it. The 3.5? It's kind of in between the Mk3S+ and the Mk9, but I don't think it needs a separate set of forums; I would probably fold it into Mk3 & Mk3S & Mk3S+ & Mk3.5 as its provenance is closer to those machines.
Mk2 forums I'd merge under Older Machines
Under Software I would add a subforum for Printables and one for these very forums here (so we can keep complaining why we can't upload 3mf files... 😇)
And under PrusaConnect I would add a subforum for the legacy Pi-based PrusaLink for the Mk3S, because right now PrusaLink means both the firmware-installed connection layer in buddy-based machines as well as the software installed on Raspberry Pis for the Mk3S, and sometimes it's difficult to figure out what people are talking about.
I hope these suggestions were specific enough 🙂 Obviously others may have additional ideas but I don't think the general structure is bad.
There's also the thread https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/english-forum-general-discussion-announcements-and-releases/a-little-update-on-some-things-to-come/ from more than a year ago, and essentially nothing has happened in response to suggestions made there. I do completely appreciate that with the launch of all those new products priorities had shifted, just saying that there's more information there about ideas people have for the forum.
Oh, and can we have the ability to upload 3mf files, please 🙏

I also vote for merging the XL forums for single tool, multi tool and upgrade. At most, add then a subforum for multi-tool topics. But I'd be reluctant do do so and just wait and see, whether that might be useful.
I usually go to "recent posts". Its traffic is stil low enough to be handy. In case the traffic increases substantially, tagging might be a way to filter out stuff.
OTOH, I am also ok with having that general structure. It is still useful for newbies or if you have been away for some time and want to have an overview of what has been discussed in a subforum lately.
RE: Why, oh why, do we need YET ANOTHER set of subforums....
I'm for combining all of the XL forums into one, since there isn't the traffic to justify separating anything. A sub forum specifically to multi tool makes sense, but even if that weren't there, I don't really see the problem- I'm guessing people would do what they do with any other product with minor variations - just state which one they're using in the post. The disadvantage of hiding all of the topics that are the same in all three existing forums from each other far outweighs any "noise" from there being a post about multiple tool heads on your computer screen when you only have a single tool model.
RE: Why, oh why, do we need YET ANOTHER set of subforums....
In existing multi-tool forums, let's create pinned posts that answer common questions and link to resources about single-to-multi tool upgrades.
RE:
Pinning posts seems beyond this forum's capabilities, or we are not trusted with access to the hammer and nails...
looking at the tools available to me, I noticed that the first post in the thread can be made a sticky Post.
Is there a particularly good single to multi tool post we could try this on?
I Don't have an XL so I have not been following the threads.

RE: Why, oh why, do we need YET ANOTHER set of subforums....
Frankly, I wouldn't waste my time with pinning posts. It is pretty obvious that NOBODY reads any of them, or we wouldn't see many of the questions asked. On top, 50% of questions or more are easily answered with a Google search, and if folks don't spend the time on a 30 second google search, they won't spend it on reading pinned posts. Just my 2cts worth.
