RE:

For those that wanted to have a idea on how much this enclosure has cost me? I did some quick math this morning this is the cost of everything for the basic full enclosure with the hepa/carbon side filter. It does not include the temp meter, Nevermore air scrubber, WYZE camera, Sunlu filiment driers, BlazeCut, or hour meter for the Nevermore.

The total to date excluding taxes is $575.00.

This includes all the Sunlu PLA, all the nuts bolts and screws, all the acrylic, the T2020 aluminum extrusion with the assembly hardware, the glass edge channel seal, foam tape, all the stainless assembly pins, and the 4" hepa filter.

That's quick math and I added a a $25 buffer.

That will give you a idea what it cost to make this enclosure. Of course any accessories you add will add to the cost!!!!😁😁😁

I like accessories!!

Before anyone mentions printing it in PLA please go to my Thread above and read the entire thing. It will explain the whole process to date

I finished the build on my enclosure and updated some smaller parts:
https://www.printables.com/model/585697-cabby-enclosure-for-original-prusa-xl

Great to see so many options already!

Also, I don't really like Prusa's approach that has been shown on Formnext yet. So I have no regrets having built my own right now =)

I'm liking the look of this one.

Whatever I get or make I'll probably add the Prusa enclosure filter.  It's standalone and would just require drilling some holes to mount it and maybe extending wires.

I already have 2 Prusa enclosures and it's just easier to have the same thing for the XL

RE: XL full enclosure

if this 3dupfitters one I ordered doesn't end up working out I might look into trying to build one of yours.

To be fair, if it doesn’t work out, you can probably reuse the acrylic panels and chop them up for this one instead!

Thanks for adding it all up! If you did it all in ASA, is it much of an uplift in cost?

Probably about $75 more than the above cost. Honestly I have been printing at some ASA parts with the enclosure at 45C -47C everyday all day for the past few weeks and the PLA looks great. Zero issues with any parts. Now all the accessory mounts and the vent panel in the back are printed in ASA. The way it is made if you stay below 55C I don't see a issue with the PLA.

If anyone wants to make there own I will be releasing all of the STLs to mine by the end of this month. Granted it's a lot of printing and work. The enclosure has been a work in progress but everything fits together perfectly and easy to assemble. All the T2020 acrylic panels are super easy to remove. The whole top hat also removes with no tools. The enclosure is built on the footprint of the XL.

I like your design more than Prusa's enclosure. Nice work.

@mme. This is excellent work. I just wanted to ask if you found a decent 3d model of the actual printer. I will probably use your STL's for the most part (again thanks for your  hard and superb work) but i would like to have a decent 3d model of the whole arrangement in case i want to change something to fit into my own needs. I just want to avoid as much as i can measuring printing and then correcting and reprinting.

No I developed it after I received the XL. The entire enclosure was hand measured for each part. For example. I did allow for some variance on the 2 lower left and right frames. About 1/16 of a inch on the to of the panel. I didn't want those 2 panels to fit so tightly that they might change the geometry of the printer. I used 1/16" foam tape on the top of the panels before installing them. It's all in the post link above. Everything fits like a glove. I do all the cad work myself on Rhino. The entire enclosure was printed on the XL.

Given how much I figured I'm going to need access to things like the filament sensors, etc, it seems like a good initial start and way better than anything I could probably build on my own.

shipping label was created yesterday so I expect it will be shipping today.

RE: XL full enclosure

Adding that to the total puts your enclosure in the same ballpark as the 3DUpfitters case ($650 for yours w/ ASA vs $699 for theirs).

I can't comment on the component quality/sturdiness difference having seen neither in person, but I will say your build looks very solid.

3DUpfitters pro - comes ready to assemble, con - LCD inside enclosure
This solution pro - lots of customization options, user modifiable (if you have the skills), LCD outside the enclosure, con - hassle of printing, ordering parts, more complex assembly (maybe?)

Very impressive work!

RE: XL full enclosure

I am actually a little ashamed how looks compared to the already shown designs. But there are some upper sides to my design too I think 😀

The good:

- Can be put off and off the printer in seconds as no parts are really attached the hat just lies on top and the front part just lies on the printer base.

- Electronics are cooled enough, as only the extruders are enclosed and in park position they still get a little fresh air from below

- I can store it efficiently on top of the IKEA Trotten since I don't need it for 60% of my prints

- I had a lot of Fun making it and learned a lot

The bad:

- It looks not really bad, even though it very practical

- It is not only taped but glued with special Polycarbonate glue. This glue resulted in my wife not being able access our living room for three days because of the stench

- It doesn't have air filtration

The Ugly:

- It could have been much more beautiful If planned more and actually used 3d printed corners and edges. But I would have needed at least one more iteration and I just couldn't be bothered.

All in all it is fine for what it is. It gets to 32c° with PETG and likely to 40-50c° with Polycarbonate or other high heat materials.
