RE: XL full enclosure
Since my xl 5h is in transit I'm really focused on figuring out the enclosure thing. I'm not really keen to build my own. This look similar to other designs mentioned on here and is less expensive than the clearview thing.

I'm leaning towards this as I've not seen a ton of other options I can buy as a kit and simply put together.
Thoughts?
I really wouldn't suggest going that route if you can wait. I'd try a grow tent or something else to hold you over until a decent enclosure releases.
We're still working on one and it shouldn't cost anywhere near as much. The issue I have right now is the cost of the printer - we're expanding and I've had to choose between dropping the $3,300 to finish the preorder or an entire wall of printers and delay my purchase.
I chose print wall.
RE: XL full enclosure
I'm interested in the option for the ventilation for ABS/ASA printing. Do you have a timeframe when your option will be available? My two current MK4 printers(upgraded from MK3S) are in enclosures from these guys( https://boxomoenclosures.com/) but they don't have an XL option yet.
Where my printers sit, the finished basement which doubles as my office, stays pretty cool all year, and gets chilly in the winter. This makes me feel as if an enclosure is pretty much a requirement.
I have the printers on a wheeled workbench so I can roll the bench over to the window for venting when I print ABS/ASA.

RE: XL full enclosure
I have the preorder ready to convert (getting emails weekly) I'm just short on cash.
I just bought a house with attached shop so I can get everything under one roof, once I figure out the financial toll for that, I'll be completing the XL order.
Looking like late January and probably late February or mid March for an enclosure design.
I know that's a bit far off, but we're pulling in more money from our research projects than from enclosures, so right now I'm focusing on what earns money so I can fund these other projects.
Apologies for the delay.
RE: XL full enclosure
yeah I get that. I'm not quite sure I want to wait that long to get something. 700 isn't terrible. We'll see.
Thanks,

RE: XL full enclosure
Not bad at all. The price seems reasonable and the size makes sense. If you need an enclosure because you print in a cold place and don't have time to build one yourself, I think is a good option.
Now, for those of you thinking of printing ABS... What are your thoughts on this kind of enclosures that uses the frame of the XL as part of the enclosure? (Prusa's own solution seems to be headed that way). I mean using the frame as part of the enclosure is ideal as it provides cooling for the electronic components while still heating the inside. My issue is with the hexagonal venting at the back. As it cools down the printheads it might allow harmful chemicals to leak into the room... What are your thoughts guys?

RE: XL full enclosure
I'm thinking if you have the fan on to vent out a tube to the outside, it should provide enough suction, even at low fan speed to draw the fumes out the tube and not out any gaps around the frame. that's what I'm hoping anyway.

Let us know once you have yours set up.

RE: XL full enclosure
I'm always impressed at what they're willing to charge for these basic acrylic panel enclosures. I'm curious to see what Printer-Box does for the XL. Their prices have been reasonable, given the quality and materials they use for their enclosures.
In the meantime, I will explore what's possible with Send-cut-send or our local plastics place to build an enclosure. I have to believe it can be done for less than $ 700 USD. That's a LOT of money for some acrylic, a few brackets, and a fancy handle.

RE: XL full enclosure
I do like the look of the printer box enclosures. I'm curious as well what they'll have for the XL.
RE: XL full enclosure
I sent them an email to inquire, not sure if they'll respond or not, but I'll post whatever I learn.
Aaron
RE: XL full enclosure
I don't blame you at all, it is far out and $700 isnt much compared to the $3500 XL.
I hope you're enjoying your XL!
Also, if you're using extractor fans, I recommend keeping the flowrate rather low, you don't need much airflow to extract the fumes and too much airflow can cause print issues.
Best of luck!
RE: XL full enclosure
Unless you have the capability to cut the acrylic in-house, the cost is severe.
We could cut panels for our i3 enclosure for $75, if we source it externally, that cost goes to around $135.
Cost is my only goal here, enclosures should never cost close to or more than the printer itself.
RE: XL full enclosure
XL should be here monday. I still need to get a good solid workbench to put it on. the ventilation kits have fans that allow Low, Medium, and high speed. I typically just do the Low setting. I'm hoping for similar for whatever I set up for the XL.
RE: XL full enclosure
Then I'll be keeping an eye on what you and your team come up with as well!
Aaron
RE:
^^I wouldn't call the cost of cutting severe. At least in Europe there are quite attractive online offers for custom cut panels (PMMA, PC, aluminium composite panels etc). If I look at www.kunststoffplatten.de custom rectangular cuts come at no extra costs beyond the material costs. (5mm PMMA XT costs 65.50 EUR/m2 incl. VAT). Complex custom cuts (just upload a dxf file) come at around 10 EUR per cut panel (if the file isn't too crazy) from what I can see.
PS: There are of course more cost effective materials one could use than PMMA or ACM panels, that is absolutely correct.
Mk3s MMU2s, Voron 0.1, Voron 2.4
RE: XL full enclosure
If you don't want anything DIY, then best I saw until now was the SUMO enclosure. Saw a price of about 300€ I think.
RE: XL full enclosure
is that actually available?
Was looking at the website.

RE: XL full enclosure
Have you thought about using a Data Cabinet? It's what I use for my MK3S+ with MMU3. They come in all different sizes and have some useful accessories (shelves, power distribution bars, cable management, and extractor fans. Get one with removable sides and you will get better access, some even have removable backs.
RE: XL full enclosure
I hadn't, do you have any in mind? the XL is pretty big. I'd need to see what you were thinking.

RE:
I don't I'm afraid but you can search google for Data Cabinet, look for one at least 23u high and 1200mm wide/deep. There are a lot of makes, some of which are only available from certain companies and/or in certain countries. There are wall mounted or floor standing (with or without wheels), and most have glass doors so you can monitor things. They're not cheap but they are usually made entirely of steel and are pretty much indestructible, I would never go over to a plastic & perspex type!
