RE: XL full enclosure
the 3dupfitters one I ordered should be here tomorrow. I even talked to support and they gave me the STL files for all the printed parts so I can reprint in some other color and material later.
Good customer service.
RE:
More info on the prusa enclosure from formnext 2023 (at t=320s):
RE: XL full enclosure
Will the 3DUpfitters one work if the printer is sitting on a 600x600 mm paving slab? It looks too me like the front of the enclosure might not be supported. I don't have my XL yet but plan to put it on a slab which then sits on sorbothane hemispheres as I've done with other printers for noise reduction (very significant reduction in vibration transmitted to the workbench).
RE: XL full enclosure
I'm still waiting on UPS to deliver, but I'll take some measurements once I get it.

just got the email it's out for delivery
RE: XL full enclosure
lol, apparently the side vent adapter is arriving today and the enclosure tomorrow. So I won't be able to do any measurements until at the earliest tomorrow evening.
RE: XL full enclosure
600x600 should be more than you need. Actually 500x500 would be enough.

RE: XL full enclosure
Just got my 5T shipping notification! The uplifters enclosure appears to be almost exactly 500mm wide, so it might be ok on a 500 slab, although there would need to be perfect alignment. I'm also interested to know how any/all of the enclosures discussed deal with the vibration of the printer, particularly designs that attach to or are in contact with the printer. Eg, does the enclosure reduce or increase resonance noise?

RE: XL full enclosure
I'm guessing since the upfitters enclosure leaves most of the frame exposed, it wouldn't dampen resonance per se. I'll find out tonight. yesterday I got the side vent adapter piece and the 3d printed parts for the enclosure. The rest should be showing up today.

RE: XL full enclosure
I guess it could dampen sound and might effect resonance. The latter could impact quality. I am interested in your findings.

RE: XL full enclosure
Alright, it arrived. It came in a legit crate too! Crate was a bit beat up but things look ok.
RE: XL full enclosure
ssill2 how many parts do you have to print?
RE: XL full enclosure
I ordered it with the printed parts, but they also gave me the stl files in case I want to print in another color, which I probably will later. I have a lime green abs color theme I've got going on for the printers lol. I wanted to get some time in with the XL before I started replacing the parts lol. I ordered the XL fully assembled.
RE: XL full enclosure
It's not a huge number of parts though.
RE: XL full enclosure
Got the door built. I might finish the rest tomorrow. The 3d upfitters guys should do their instructions more like prusa. The info is there but it's probably not how I would have approached the build so far.

RE: XL full enclosure
I am going to build this XL enclosure:
https://www.printables.com/de/model/610843-enxlosure-minimalist-and-printable-prusa-xl-enclos
Still waiting for some parts from Aliexpress. I think I will put the XL on this Ikea Trotten table
Order no. 894.369.75
It is 0.8m x 0.8m. So big enough for the XL
RE: XL full enclosure
@Jeggo I actually bought that Trotten then returned it before opening. I was thinking to add a low shelf for a MK3. But even with just the XL, the weight limit of the Trotten is 50kg, and I want to use a concrete slab with sorbothane hemispheres to reduce noise, which takes the load to over 60kg. In the end I went for this (1220x760 size):
Much heavier duty, I can put the mk3 on the lower shelf, and I can easily move the whole thing around for maintenance.
As regards that enclosure ( https://www.printables.com/de/model/610843-enxlosure-minimalist-and-printable-prusa-xl-enclos), and like the Prusa prototype shown at Formnext, the upwards opening upper door is a real problem if you have a shelf or ceiling above the printer. It's a shame, as otherwise that design looks interesting.
RE: XL full enclosure
@tg73: You are wright, that the manual mentions 50kg as max load for the Trotten table. But I think, this is a little bit low and the construction will carry much more weight. Especially if you do not move the table. I think the restriction in load is mainly based on the two wheels. The next week I am going to see the Trotten table in real live (several Ikea stores in under 50km range). I have several big laser printers on Ikea Lack tables without any issues. As the Lack table more or less just consists out of paper and cardboard it is quite good. I would trust the steel frame of the Trotten table much more.
My XL should arrive next week (already shipped by Prusa). Then I can explore further details of the enclosure and the placement. I am also thinking of installing a BlazeCut fire protection system. But it seems to be difficult to get the smaller systems here in Germany (0.5m for the small XL enclosure). Prusa is selling the 0.3m version for the MK3/4 enclosure. So I might build an enclosure of the enclosure. A simple frame on top of the Trotten table with 3030 aluminium extrusion and acrylic panels. Inside this big frame, there is enough room for a 1m or even 2m version of the BlazeCut.
RE: XL full enclosure
In my opinion the trotten with the Cupboard underneath works much better:
https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-general-discussion-announcements-and-releases/did-ikea-design-this-trotten-specifically-for-for-the-prusa-xl/#post-676203
It is super sturdy and super practical IMHO. If you want to put some kind of "Hat" on to the printer to be able to put it easily on and off you will need standoffs though. I designed some and put them on printables.
RE: XL full enclosure
@Jeggo: yeah, I particularly didn't want to trust the wheels, and I would need to move it around. My local IKEA didn't have this item on display so I wasn't able to inspect it. I'll be interested to hear how it goes for you.
