Starting a new print results in failure

Several times now, I had had a problem where I send a file to the SL1S and after it does the "mini calibration" where it moves the platform all the way to the top, it keeps doing that over and over, and then fails.  If I turn the printer off, manually turn the threaded shaft so that it moves the platform about an inch below the top, then when I send a print file it works correctly.

Why is this necessary?

Seems there is a problem that it can't find the top, if it is already too close to the top.

I don't know why, but my SL1S does exactly the same.

Instead of turning it manually, I use the menu to command the platform down. I have to push the down button 3-4 times before the platform dislodges and starts to move. After that I can start a new print.
