SL1 hammering noises - is this normal?
Hi everyone
My self-assembled SL1 makes hammering noises after the first 5 to 10 layers. At first it starts with one beat per layer and increments after few layers. In the video you can see/hear 3 beats. I can't imagine this is normal. Am I wrong?
I already tried to fix in with the troubleshooting guide form prusa ( https://www.prusa3d.com/loud-noises-from-printer/), but I couldn't resolve it. Firmware: 1.3.3 and a clean sensor.
I did open the black cover from the printer while running to check the printbed mechanism, but nothing is blocking. It seams that the stepper motor from the printbed does this on purpose.

I would say that is not normal...
but I have no idea what the cause is.
Possibly the Tilt motor stalling and clicking back to the last position, is anything getting hot? maybe expansion is causing the display platform to be too high after initial calibration?
I haven't used my SL1 for a long time, because I have not been well, (and I am locked down away from home) so the firmware may have changed
you could try re calibrating with the display platform a tiny bit lower and try a new print.
Other than that I have no clue, sorry!

From the pictures, I can see, that the tilt platform doesn't reach the level of the frame. Looks like the build platform is to low or there is something in the tank. Luckily you could hear that hammering instead of the cracking of the LCD.
Check if you need to clean the FEP and do a recalibration of the printer.

There is nothing getting hot. I have to correct my post: My print bed is not the problem. It's the display platform. I wrote it wrong.
The crazy thing is that the printing works.
I did a recalibration but the problem still occurs.. It still the same pattern.

The platform does not reach the level, because the printing process has already passed the first few percent.

Now, I'm printing the Prusa Clay Army as a test and there is no hammering noises anymore.
Could it really be a slicing problem? Has anyone already had a similar experience?
I will now retry and reslice the object. The results will follow.

May the noise comes from peeling of a fresh layer from the FEP film?
As bigger the surface, as louder is the noise.
A new print starts with the skirt layers. These layers have bigger surface than any layers later. This is why you hear the noise only for the first layers.
If not using a PRUSA-prepared material setup, you may should adjust the shutter time for 1st layer down, means as longer a layer cures, as harder it is to peel of the FEP film.

I'm sorry for my late reply. I now know what was wrong: The layer hight was too thin (0,025 -> 0.035 - ok). With a thicker setting it had worked. It is only an assumption, but maybe it would have worked with a shorter exposure time.
