SL1 Defective Parts

Wanted to put an update and wanted to hear from others regarding my experience with Prusa so far.

I received my printer roughly 1.5 weeks ago and after building my printer, it looks like it came with defective parts. The printer would not turn on after carefully assembling everything. It took me roughly 8 hours and even double checked and triple checked everything. Contacted support and I even sent them photos of my connects and build to verify everything is how it should be.

Now they are telling me to purchase equipment to test the parts. I don't know how I feel about Prusa telling me to purchase equipment to test parts that should have worked in the first place. The SL1 was a little expensive for me, waiting a year, and now having to spend more money. Not what I had in mind... I understand that since they haven't been able to pinpoint the problem through there instructions, they don't know what parts to send me. I was hoping that I would be able to send it back(or a few of the parts) and they would pinpoint the problem and ship it back fixed. Just been a little frustrated when I don't get any responses from support even after a day or two.

I wanted to hear what other people have to say.

Sorry for you edward.

On my side the printer is working well so far. The orange lid/door arrived broken but they sent me a new one today so I would say the support is quite good but it is true it can take a day or two to receive a reply.

@julien-k

Thanks Julien,

It took roughly 2 weeks but after pestering them again directly through the chatbox, looks like the source of my problem has been solved.

Yep it was a defective part issue. After talking to a different support person for help, I short circuited the power-on button in the front and it worked! looks like the USB/power-button board were the problem. They are going to send me a new one, but won't send it me it until I send them mine first. So it might be another week before I get to do my first print.

I had the exact same issue and I just received it in June 2020 so they have had plenty of time to discover this was a problem. The solder pads on the circuit board connected to the power button on the front were broken. The printer finally turned on after many hours of going through wiring, checking everything so many times. When I pressed on the solder pads it turned on. When I posted a long video of this with very detailed closeups of the problem, chat said they would “see” about sending me a new front panel. That was a week ago and still no response. I think the power button is soldered at Prusa and they are skimping on solder, flux, whatever. I am surprised they are actually requiring you to send the part back before they send you a new one. How did it work out for you?

In my case, for the broken lid, they sent me a new one quickly and without asking me to send the broken one.

@oem

Well after I sent it in, it took about a week for me to get a new front plate with the button. Had no issues ever since. Just really bothered me at the time that after paying more for this SLA printer and it being Prusa brand, I ended up having all these issues and resistance from customer support.

I'm glad I managed to get things resolved and hope that Prusa will do the same thing for you.
