Question on Exposure and Supports

Howdy all!

So far 1.5 seconds exposure time gave me a really solid validation matrix, but when I try to print some heavier prints they just fall off the supports.

Now, it may not be the exposure settings, but it's my current leading suspicion.

So the question, do people commonly adjust their exposure time for what they are printing? Or should every print be solid once I find the "golden number"? 1.5 gave me the best quality, but do I need to increase it due to a heavier print, and adjust accordingly for future prints?

Or is it likely something else is having them fall (though I've tried checking most everything else)

Thanks!

RE: Question on Exposure and Supports

I am not an expert.  But I do have a fair amount of SL1 prints under my belt with Prusa Dental Casting Resin, and Prusa Tough Orange.  1.5 seconds seems very short.  I use a 50 sec. first layers and 14 sec. normal layers setting for my Dental Casting Resin.  And if I remember correctly, about 35 sec. first layer and 9 sec. normal layers for Prusa Tough.

My advice would be to load the default settings for your resin, and start with a simple baseline print.  If you are going heavier, maybe add 10% of the default time.

Supports are an entirely different conversation; you need supports in the right places, and plenty of them in my experience.  Remember that as you are looking at your build plate in the software it is upside down from how the printer actually works.  So when adding supports, think of it all hanging from the build plate and being pulled up out of the resin vat.  You want your detailed side of your pieces facing down ward for the best detail you can get.

Here is a really good Youtube video:

Hope this helps!
