Not exporting to UK? Bl@@dy Brexit!!!!

After several weeks of deliberation,  I decided to take the plunge and order an SL1 today

I find that Prusa have stopped exports to UK due to Brexit

This is madness

Not a UK resident but you have my sympathy.

This is what happens when people vote for and push through things without understanding all the implications because rah rah, patriotism, my country first!

Well you did pick a time when cross channel freight is fouled up by Covid19 variant causing unpredictable delays so that no-one knows when their package will cross the border and so which set of paperwork applies - that's if the courier's drivers will risk crossing in case the virus closes the borders again.

You might just have been a tad overoptimistic in ordering right now.

Leave it a couple of weeks to settle down and try agan.

Not me - nor most people I know!  A recent opinion poll showed only 39% support for Brexit.

Yup (to clarify - I'm not saying that in an accusatory sense, just an observatory statement given my limited exposure to the issue via the international press - it sounded like that referendum was deliberately phrased to be confusing and bias the results). And in the US Trump won in 2016 despite not having the majority of the total vote count...

Populism... the newest ism that threatens society as a whole.

Also - I would expect it will resume at some point once the path forward is more clear in terms of trade agreements with the EU. But for now John Q Public gets caught up in the crossfire of a political spat. Again :-/

As did several as little as a month before the referendum - you can't rely on anything short of a full poll.

In the meanwhile you can use the time designing some parts to print; IIrc you already have a Mk3, I don't think I've seen any composite designs utilising both FDM and resin parts... yet.

In the meantime I have decided to save a bit of money and have ordered an Anycubic Photon from Amazon 😀

I do have a Mk3s which unfortunately has started throwing M112 errors which I need to investigate.

Providing the UK parliament & EU parliament sign the agreement, it should be business as usual again in a couple of weeks, albeit with a few extra checks at the border.

I too want to place an order for a few extra spares and some Prusament, but I'm in no hurry!

Ignoring the political side of things, has anyone from Prusa able to say when this will be resolved? Given a deal was agreed (to be ratified on the 30th, but all instructions are up on gov.uk for EU businesses) my understanding is that the only thing changing for an EU business shipping to the UK is that they have to now include a customs decleration form on the package, the same as when items are shipped outside the EU to other places around the world.

Hoping this can get resolved swiftly, already running low on prusament from my new mini! 😨

I had this reply from customer support:

Hello,

it should work again in the first half of January. It was a security step because the situation was not clear.
We currently have public holidays and colleagues are not in the offices. As soon as they come back, I believe they will solve it soon.
If you have any further questions don't hesitate to ask me.
Have a nice holiday.

The UK is quite a significant market share for Prusa, Prusa won't want to lose it, there are  few options to take when moves are afoot, such as  Covid border closure and political manoeuvring, Prusa have decided to put out a statement, they could have decided to remain quiet...
there may well have been an agreement between the UK and the European authorities,   on Christmas eve, however that is likely to have been after the decision to post the message was taken by Prusa, and is unlikely to be reviewed until the actual situations are confirmed and Prusa Management have had time to appraise the information and address any changes that need implementation.

I heard a snippet on the radio that the agreement was some 1200pages in length. it is likely that that will take some time to read and digest.

Lets all hope that some form of normality returns soon.
regards Joan

After many years of self build machines I finally decided get a Prusa, so ordered a mini a couple of months ago, it actually got dispatched on the 21st, then s**t hit the fan at the border and it looks like it got turned around at Prague and was sent back to Prusa. Hopefully they will resend once this situation has settled a bit 🙂

I have received an email from Prusa this morning that clarifies the situation.

Hi,
we would like to let you know that despite the unclear Brexit situation after January 1st, we are doing everything we can to ship the vast majority of currently placed orders to the UK by the end of the year. Due to complications with ground transport, we have automatically (and free of charge) switched most of the orders to the DHL Express air transport. Orders should arrive in accordance with current international rules.

However, some orders cannot be shipped before January 1st - e.g. because they are out of stock. pre-orders etc. We will resolve the situation regarding these orders in accordance with the recent agreement between the UK and the EU. It is possible that these orders will be delayed due to the approval process. To prevent more discrepancies, we have temporarily turned off the option to create new orders with UK shipping address. We will make this option available again as soon as possible.
Thank you for your understanding and... as always - happy printing!
Jo Prusa

This is really helpful and it's good to know that they are staying on top of the situation.

I also received a despatch notification for my MMU order which is earlier than I expected.   I hope it isn't holding things up for orders in other countries.  I have decided to shelve my plans for the resin printer for the time being.

Happy New Year everyone

Peter

Hi re. your comment "...because rah rah, patriotism, my country first!" I wonder if you could provide a list of EEC member states that do not have that mentality. The Brexit negotiations went right to the wire because BOTH side were trying to get the best deal for their respective countries. Part of the reason why many people voted to exit is because of all the "you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours" deals done behind closed doors.BTW I'm a brit but not resident and did not vote in the Brexit referendum (but if I had voted I would have voted to stay in the sinking ship.)

Can’t fault Prusa on this one, they have shipped my MK3S+ upgrade kit early, via airfreight at their expense, which is kind of them. I am sure everything will be resolved at the beginning of January once the dust settles, and then we will all be able to order from the UK again. Even government ministers and the UK newspaperss have been quoting the wrong information on the EU/UK import/export procedures from the 1st of Jan

I didnt create this thread to start a pro/anti Brexit argument - that water passed under the bridge a long time ago and we've all now got to make the best of how things are now.

Not wishing to flog a dead horse and accepting that you didn't intend to start a pro/anti Brexit thing, I thought your implied criticism of my countrymen deserved some response. Don't forget if it wasn't for us and the yanks (well mainly the yanks actually) you'd all be whistling Horst-Wessel-Lied.

Shock Horror - surely government ministers haven't got it wrong?  🤨

Good news is that my MMU2 has just been delivered - thanks Prusa.
