Denatured Alcohol (Ethanol) rather than 99% IPA

I'm a woodworker and like to mix / thin shellac, so I always heave Denatured Alcohol (Ethanol with stuff added to make it taste bad) around. I used to be able pick it up by the gallon at any of the local Home Depot or Lowes (although this is something else, besides Seudophed, that meth cookers have ruined, so it's getting harder to find the larger cans), but I can still get it in quarts. 99% IPA, however, is a more expensive special order (anything above 70% or so is online-only), requires a case of pint bottles, and something else I'd now need to keep around in quantity.

Some resins, like the Siraya Tech ones, actually prefer ethanol rather than IPA. So, my questions are:

1. Will any parts of the CW1 (especially the 3d printed parts) be harmed by denatured alcohol/ethanol?

2. Are the Prusa resins compatible with cleaning by denatured alcohol/ethanol?

I am aware of other risks of DNA/Ethanol, as it is also used as fuel for camp stoves and similar. 🙂 My only thought, assuming everything else is compatible, is about the cleaning container and lid being only slightly better than an open container. I normally keep all my DNA in sealed containers. I'll think about that one myself, once I have answers on the others.

Thanks

Pete

I have been using this exact brand,I dont have a CW1 so I can not say if it is harful to the CW1, the only thing I can say is the plastic changes color (faded as if it was old parts). I am using Prusa Resin so far.

Depends very much on the additives. Some only have methanol, which is probably fine. Others have more complex organic additives that are more likely to damage or soften plastics.

Good to know. Thanks

Looks like I stick with IPA.

I believe the problematic additive is often MEK (Methylethylketone).

That would definitely be a problem. It can be used as styrene cement in model building. 🙂

Yes, it's also a primary ingredient in many plastic pipe cements.
