Tilt Speed Check Failure
Hello!
Sorry for the long post, I'm hoping for some technical support assistance from anyone out there...
I got my SL1 kit this week (Ordered 9/22)!! Woot! I got it assembled in around 3 hours, and things were looking great. Until the pre-flight check.
During the tilt Speed test, it will get stuck at fast test 3/3. The tilt will move back and forth and trigger the sensor again and again but never progress beyond this step.
I've reached out to Prusa support, but right now I'm stuck in the weekend-gap, and because I'm in the states I'm also being hit by the time difference.
So far I've tried:
Updated firmware to 1.2.1
Factory Reset
Adjusted optical sensor position
Confirmed wiring
partially dismantled and Confirmed grub screw and tilt assembly is done correctly
replaced optical tilt switch sensor with mechanical end stop factory reset again and had the same issue, again (home test works, speed test fails)
The log file shows a loop of:
WARNING - sl1fw.libHardware - Tilt homing failed!

Interesting. You've covered all the ground I could think of. Sensor position looked good in the early pic (seemed a bit to the right in the later video, but the angle was wrong, and it wasn't hitting which is all that should matter).
I'm going to go watch mine with the cover off. My 'tilt check' seems much faster and smoother than yours (with the cover on) so I'm wondering if it is a stepper motor issue or something else (not a sensor issue). Stupid question: have you replugged the stepper motor to verify nothing flakey there?
+1 on support, this is beyond simple "wiggle this and make sure that is aligned" debug. Let us know the result.

Here is a video of my successful tilt check. (firmware 1.2.1, btw)
Very different from yours. My homes to the top, the smoothly swoops down until it triggers the sensor, backs out and tries the sensor one more time.
On yours, it stutters all the way down. My guess: your sensor is showing "closed" all the time. As the arm starts down, it sees the sensor "closed", so stops, goes slower looking for the physical end (hitting something, sensing the current). It doesn't find it so it keeps trying a bit further (which takes a while).
Can you verify the sensor gap is clear of any obstructions? It sounds like a dead sensor. I don't know how the sensor works electrically (does it look like a open/close switch that can be checked with an ohmeter? Does it require 3v or 5v, and it puts out oV or 3V depending on open/closed?) but you could try to test it outside the printer).

My first step was to contact support. The 24/7 support escalated the issue to an internal developer, hence the weekend delay.
Yes, the position of the sensor has been all over the place. I loosened the screws and tried every position and wiggle space I could. None of it seemed to make a difference.
I tested the sensor with a meter (attached to the SL1 board but detached from the stepper position, I used a zip tie to trigger it), results of the test are below. Seems like the sensor is operating correctly.

I checked the stepper motor cables and confirmed they all look normal. I also disassembled the stepper assembly, put it all back together again and tried once more. Still have the same issue 🙁
Thanks for the video also. Yeah, my printer is behaving differently as soon as it starts the speed test, before it even reaches the sensor! There is no physical interference. I'm really stumped 🙁

Next update... I pulled a stepper from another printer and confirmed that the same issue happens with a known good stepper motor. Also a new and tested sensor. Still having the same issue. I also tried reinstalling firmware again, still no help 🙁

You are running out of options. Board replacement?
One note: in the Setting => Advanced Settings => Move Resin Tank, you can smoothly move up/down the resin tank. The "fast" up/down there should smoothly move the tank at a reasonable pace. If it does, your stepper and mechanics are fine. That would leave the sensor (sensor stuck on/off, or board not reading the sensor correctly, or some other board issue).

Sounds that way. Hopefully the sensor, slightly easier to replace then the board.

So this is interesting. After trying to home the tilt bed those controls no longer work. If I fast move up and down after a reboot no problems. When I home it goes through the jittery homing process then won’t respond to the fast move controls at all.

That is interesting. Several tests on my side:
1) Normal: I can home the printer, then do fast move up/down. Homing Tank here:
2) Paper blocking optical sensor: printer immediately thinks bed is down and tries to go up:
3) Disconnected sensor: interestingly, the sound/timing is different than 'blocked'
Does yours match any of those behaviors for home? I couldn't tests movement after home for the 'bad' cases, as I wanted to immediately power off the printer once the stepper started clicking...

1. Normal Home -- The tilt moves the same way it does when disconnected until the sensor is triggered. Then it is "home" but it also thinks it is all the way back up. I can't fast move up or down.

2. Blocked Sensor -- I get the same "click-click" sound when I Move Up (before homing of course) beyond the top. Support suggested I change the sensitivity of the tilt in advanced options too -2. This will now make it so up stops when it hits the top and it doesn't click. Aside from that... well the video shows what happens

3. Disconnected -- This behaves basically the same as #1, except where the sensor is normally tripped it will continue until it is bashing into the stop. it will just keep going like this as long as I let it, even though I stopped the video pretty quickly.

Just another update. Support's latest idea was that the issue stemmed from the connecting rod and holder protrusion not being flush.

So after careful disassembly and reassembly, they are now flush. But the issue persists

Sorry for the delay, there wasn't much of an update to be made.
Support RMA'd my stepper motor and the motion controller. New ones arrived today, got them installed, ran through calibration, and my first print is underway right now!

2 weeks in now. SL1 has been spitting out prints, several a day, pretty much every day, with no issues at all! My FEP film is starting to look a little worn, and I've had to top off the IPA for the CW1 a couple of times, but nothing unexpected has happened at all.
Overall, I'm very happy with the machine!
