MK3.5 not getting input shaping?

I am confused now:

https://www.prusa3d.com/product/original-prusa-i3-mk3-s-to-mk3-5-upgrade-kit-4/ says:

"MK3.5 upgrade contains the xBuddy board and new LCD, gives your MK3 the new 32-bit electronics, new connectivity options, Prusa Connect support, and also Input Shaper and Pressure Advance for high-speed printing."

But https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware-Buddy/releases/tag/v5.0.0 says:

"5.0.0 Firmware for Original Prusa MK4 & MK3.9"

And email says:

"Regarding the Input Shaper, only one promise remains unfulfilled. The firmware update for XL is more complex, due to completely different CoreXY kinematics and the presence of a toolchanger which brings additional challenges."

So how do will I ever get input shaping on the MK3.5 if only the XL is still 'unfulfilled' and the 5.0.0 firmware is not for the MK3.5 nor is it at all mentioned in the x-Buddy firmware page.

RE: MK3.5 not getting input shaping?

As far as I'm aware Input Shaping requires the Nextruder (with accelerometer) to work.  Unfortunately, the MK3.5 upgrade does not include these parts.

The MK4 doesn't have an accelerometer either.

RE:

It is quite possible that the MK3.5 upgrade requires different firmware due to the hardware differences between the MK3.5 and the MK3.9/MK4.

I wouldn't worry too much about it until updated details on the MK3.5 upgrade.

Fair. I guess with the "one firmware to rule them all" the MK3.5 also going to 5.x.0 makes sense, but it's not there yet obviously, they just added MK3.9 support on 5.x.0. I mean 3.5 is kinda similar to 3.9, like 3.9 is to 4. Because; All have the xBuddy, but the 3.5 does not have the nextruder, yet does have the same 1.8deg steppers as the MK3.9.

All in all should be doable, the only concern would be how different the resonant frequency will be of the old mk3s style extruder vs the nextruder. They might have to calibrate specifically for it.

MK3.5 will support input shaper.

RE: MK3.5 not getting input shaping?

Coming from Klipperland I may add that it doesn't need anything as complicated as a calibration. At least not in terms of what most people think. It also does not require an ADXL being onboard more than once for testing (and having built 100000 identical printers it takes just one to measure the resonance attributes). Actually a task that not even Prusa has to carry out, anyone could do that (and it has been done before).

Another Mythbuster: Whether it's a 1.8 or 0.9 stepper won't matter much. Strictly speaking the driving software won't care (not in terms of the IS measurement and calculation).

To proof the point: The Mini meanwhile got IS 😉 and it became a really cool machine (1.8 steppers, Buddyboard, no ADXL)

Disclaimer: The next paragraph is my personal experience derived from all sorts of Prusas and corexy. If you don't like the statements just skip over them.

So wrapping this all up, the MK3 could get IS pretty soonish as there is nothing that could prevent it (basically, you could use the Mini electronics and be done with it). Nothing? Well, not really. The main work needs to be invested into viable print profiles. If you ever tried to use accs around 4k on it it all looks good till it doesn't anymore. Following the IS results x is good for around 4k, while y is good for 2k without smoothing aka IS. But, it still doesn't work. There are some funny things happening that I wouldn't like as a manufacturer to burden my customers with. To be more detailed, the accs are quite ok, it just happens if you up vels as well. And even worse, the current vels are so low it doesn't matter if you up the accs. And this is something IS cannot help you with. And my personal bet is: That's what Prusa is working on right now.

And still: I would like to have a release date! Josef, are you listening? 😆

Well, the MK3.5 isn't out, so why should they start making firmware for it?

And, like he said,

"MK3.5 upgrade contains the xBuddy board and new LCD, gives your MK3 the new 32-bit electronics, new connectivity options, Prusa Connect support, and also Input Shaper and Pressure Advance for high-speed printing."

And, the MK3.5 has 1.8 stepper motors. That is one reason I had faith Prusa would make Input Shaping for the Mini.
