RE: MK3.5 Bondtech Extruder & Mosquito
I just ordered the MK3.5 kit for my MK3S+ which has the Bondtech Extruder and Mosquito fitted I was wondering the same should I convert my MK3S+ BACK to original hotend for the upgrade to work? would love to know before I start upgrading unit.
RE: MK3.5 Bondtech Extruder & Mosquito
I contacted Bondtech and to use their extruder, you will have to alter the control board and void your warrantee. I am probably going to convert both of my printers back to the original extruder. I will keep the hotted if I can.

Care to elaborate on what needs to be altered?

I suspect, but cannot confirm, that you must remove the appendix from the control board to use the custom firmware.

Given that the mini does not require specific firmware I doubt you'll need to break off the appendix of the new board. The bondtech extruders are essentially the same between the mini and MK3S, the only thing that the mini requires is for you to change the E-Steps and the direction of the extruder.
My only concern would be temperature control with the heater since the actual hotend is different. There isn't anything drastically different between the hotend carriages.
Prusa mentions that they are working on the Revo portion of the firmware, would that encompass all aftermarket hotends? It'd be a shame if I have to void warranty or be stuck on an E3D hotends.. they suck. Lol

I've had the 3.5 upgrade running a few days now. Bondtech LGX and Mosquito hotend with Diamondback nozzles. After setting the e-steps to 800 I've had no issues whatsoever. It's been a sweet machine so far.
I'm sure as I learn the new firmware I can tweak settings to take advantage of the Mosquito's higher flow but right now it's faster ( I wouldn't say twice as fast, a common print I run that used to take 1hr 23m now takes 46m) and the quality is maybe a bit better than before the upgrade. I'm happy.

The Bondtech extruder requires special firmware with the Mk3S+. The Buddy may not support this and that is what Bonftech is indicating.

The LGX and the standard Bondtech are different.

This is precisely what they said:
Yes we are but be aware a specific procedure that will void your warranty is necessary to install it. We are still a couple of weeks away from release. I'm forwarding your ticket to our colleague that is developing the firmware for more details, in case you have more questions. Thank you for using Bondtech.

Leading with this initially would have been nice. I thought you were assuming.
RE: MK3.5 Bondtech Extruder & Mosquito
Bondtech says the LGX requires specific firmware but that apparently isn't the case if you set the e-steps properly. I don't see anything in the OP that indicates a specific extruder 0ver another, so maybe this will encourage someone else with the LGX who may be on the fence.

The extruder that I have is a BMG 3:1 extruder, not the LGX.
RE: MK3.5 Bondtech Extruder & Mosquito
I am upgrading two and will post my results. I am hoping for success. I will have to try to figure out the esteps for the 3:1.

I'd start off with 415 since that's what's on the mini.
I need to finish printing the X Axis mounts in PCCF this week. I might be able to upgrade mine as well this weekend.
RE: MK3.5 Bondtech Extruder & Mosquito
You changed the profiles with the new e-step or is there a setting in the Buddy controls?
I have a few mk3's with Bondtech and Mosquito Magnum. It would be nice if I could convert the printers.

Look here: https://www.bondtech.se/en/product/prusa-i3-mk3s-extruder-upgrade/#tab-firmware
(Estep set to 830; adjusted Z_MAX_POS to 205; changed printer name).
For the Bondtech Upgrade, You need a new x-carriage. You can find all the files and information on the Bondtech side.
