Nozzle heater check failed

Running self test and the nozzle heater check fails.  It gets to "Heater testing" and heats up.  Got to the upper 100's and then it just put an X on it and quickly jumps back to the test selection screen.  I'm able to run the first layer calibration just fine though.  The only thing non-stock on my hotend is that I have a E3D Copper Heater Block so I can only guess that has a slightly different temperature profile that it is unhappy about.

Looking at the code it has to hit 180 in 60 seconds.  I am at 178 when it fails and then after it fails and goes into cooldown it briefly reads over 180.  So I am only 1-2 short of passing the test.  This is very frustrating.  It appears I can not setup Prusa Connect either until I pass the self test.  Is that also why the firmware will not update on the WiFi module?  I tried wired ethernet as a workaround and the printer will not get the time and adding to Prusa Connect comes back refused.  Seems a lot might be tied to passing the self-test.  I can print though if I dismiss the warnings.

Same issue... * waits patiently for solution to be posted *

I had to swap it back in when my Revo starting playing up to print the parts required for the upgrade. It prints fine, but yeah, fails the test. Was looking to do a PID tune, but that's no longer available on the 3.5, so I'm out of ideas. Hopefully e3d be back to me about this borked Revo so I can whack it back in.

Can you not pre heat nozzle to 100 then run self test. Surley tjay will then make it hit the 180

No, it waits for it to cool down to 50C before starting the test.

Yep.  Tried hitting it lightly with a heat gun early on without success.  Then remembered I had some hot end socks I never used, that made it even worse.  Be nice to know if my issues with setting up PrusaConnect are releated.  I could dig into the code to find out I suppose.  Using wired it gets an IP address just fine but that's it.  Won't get the current time or connect to PrusaConnect.  Don't really want to sit on a support chat but suppose I might have to.

Hmm ok so when its heating to 190 have you tried give it a light blast of hot air to get it to reach 190

I hit it with hot air early in the heating process.  I don't want to melt anything and I didn't want to risk bringing the temp down blowing on it late in the test.  So I just lightly hit it till about 100C.  I do not recall where exactly it ended up but it did not get it hot enough.

The the copper heat block it heats too slow, with the revo it heats too fast... Far out! Let us tune our non standard upgraded printers.

I spent a few hours with Pedro on support last night (PST) and tried everything from testing the power supply with a multimeter to checking the resistance of the thermistor. He had me run it to 200c but I would get a preheat failure at around 168 each time. @GrimBeaver have you tried just setting the nozzle temp to 200 and seeing if it reaches it without issue? We still have no resolution so far.

As my Revo died while my 3.5 kit was enroute, and e3d told me to eat a poop, I decided they're not getting anymore of my cash. I present my solution... Behold, the FrankenRevo!

How did you create that? 
how have you managed the heatbreak? is it revo, or did you shorten the revo nozzle to work with V6 heatbreak?

Sounds like you are in worse shape than me.  I have printed just fine at 230 degrees.  I just can't pass the self test or get Prusa Connect / WiFi to work.  I am hoping that it's just not letting me setup Prusa Connect because I don't have a "working" printer yet.

I had the same problem like you. I helped heat it up faster with soldering iron and it passed the test. I also contacted support and tell them that they would solve this if the test time would be for about 5 sec longer. We will see if they will change that with next firmware update.

I like the soldering iron idea.  I will have to give that a try.

Just installed it and started running calibrations. Works a treat so far! Still failing the heater calibration though, I think the above thinking of it heating up too slow is flawed, as someone reported it working with the sock off. That to me suggests with REVO or a socked Al block with a sock, it's hitting the temp too quickly. Maybe instead of giving it a blast of heat, it needs to be cooled down during tuning? Perhaps take the socks off the REVO and give it another crack?

I'm about to take the sock of my FrankenRevo and see if that passes this bloody test, if not, will maybe hold a wet rag to it for a bit during preheat. I'm not sure if it's measuring simply time, or if it's measuring the ramp up curve to compare it to stock. Heat over time at specific intervals? Who knows!

But I'm not wearing any socks.  🙁  Still need to try the soldering iron idea.

On a side note I did finally get PrusaConnect setup with a wired connection.  Was going to try a static IP and in the process of trying to figure out how that setup and clicking things in the menu I went back to DHCP at one point and it "woke up" and suddenly the time popped up in the corner.  My WiFi module definitely seems dead still though so will have to get a replacement for that eventually.
