RE: Mmu3/2 setups

This is my MMU2 setup, hoping to be able to adapt to MMU3 when the upgrade arrives.

My setup without filament buffer. So far it works without any problems.

So far it has worked without any problems.  I have inserts in the boxes to prevent tangling.

Clever, the simplest ideas are often the best.

I never used the Prusa buffer before, but I told myself that I would still test it one day, and finally it works perfectly well.

Really like this set-up!

Clean, simple, compact, accessible.

I really like how you can see everything!  One of the tricky parts of making things compact is retaining the ability to identify and debug where the fail happens and then being able to access whatever is needed to rectify.  Your set-up makes that easy!

Great Job!

P.S.  And Thank you for the links!  We may (will) replicate on our next (3rd) printer!  Please either post or PM any build tips, tricks, ideas, revisions or “things I will do next time”…

RE:

Spool setup from shelf brackets and PVC pipe

I just got the MMU3 and almost have it all assembled. Long ago, I had a lower end 3D printer and used the attached image to manage my spools. It fits two as pictured. Low tech, easy. I am contemplating just doing a longer pole and putting all five spools on this same setup. What do you all experienced folks think? Will that work do you think? Or will I need to provide some sort of separation between spools? Do you think the spools will want to interfere with each other without it?

Thanks.

RE: Mmu3/2 setups

I have used a single broom handle with 5 spools on it... spaced about 3 feet (1 metre) away from the printer.
I bring the filament from the under side of the spool, to the feed in PTFE tubes and into the MMU3.
Load as normal, then in use, the backfed filament coils up in Mid air as an 'air buffer',

with the filament coming under the spool to the printer, gravity prevents the filament transfering over onto adjacent spools

RE: Mmu3/2 setups

Great thanks. I'll go with the long pole then.

So, are you suggesting not to use the cassette buffer? I was planning to still use it, but just maybe install on the wall or something like some of the other folks pictured here.

RE:

I am not suggesting anything, just saying I didn't use the cassette buffer.  Lol...
when Prusa had their Mk4 MMU3 at SMRRF Oxford, they didn't use the buffer either...
If you stray from the straight and narrow, you may have to make adjustments!...
I don't have space for cassette buffers and discrete spool holders
