Looking at getting the mmu3 for my mk3.5
I have been contemplating a mmu3 for a while but my barrier is my space. I currently mount spools above the printer with a spool holder attached to the shelf above.
Is a rewinding spool holder like this applicable?

This would seem to eliminate the need for the goofy spool holders and the filament buffer. My only concern is there would be too much drag when the filament is unspooling. How crucial is minimizing friction when the MMU is feeding filament to the extruder?
RE:
I sometimes found that I got filament slippage if I didn't manually put a loop into the buffer when I loaded a spool. It seems that the MMU feeder doesn't have the same amount of grip that the extruder has. So the loop is necessary in order to provide the slack allowing the filament to be pushed down to the extruder. Once the extruder has got hold of the filament, then the loop is no longer ncessary. The extruder can pull the filament right through the entire system.
If you are struggling for space, can I suggest that you have a look at my thread entitled 'MMU Space Saver' in this forum section. I started off with the spools on the desk at the side of my printer, and I was struggling without that valuable space. Now my spools are above the printer, and the buffer is at the side of the printer. It works great.
