RE: Original Prusa MMU3 upgrade kit (for MK4) - Shipping soon?
- So I ordered the MK4 upgrade and the MMU2 -> MMU3 upgrade a couple weeks apart back in early June.
The MK4 upgrade showed up yesterday, and we still have zero ETA on the MMU2->3 or even a straight up MM3 for the MK4, essentially rendering my MK4 upgrade worthless, as 100% of my prints are MMU based.
So I between the MK4 upgrade, the MMU3 upgrade, new Obxidian nozzles, spare parts etc, I now have almost $1000 sitting in Prusa’s bank accounts with zero to show for it as it’s (for me) utterly pointless to do the MK4 upgrade without the corresponding MMU3.
It’d be fine if I could use my existing MMU2 with the MK4, but that’s not an option.
Wish to hell I’d known this six months ago.
Still waiting on my 5 head XL which doesn’t look like I’ll see that until probably feb or march at this point.
More than a little disappointed with all this.
The piss poor communications from Prusa sure as hell hasn’t helped.a whole lot..
I got the email about the some voucher for the delay, but have no idea where that is, and it sure didn’t show up when I did a last minute Obxidian add to the MK4 order as they’d finally came back in stock shortly before it shipped.
RE: Original Prusa MMU3 upgrade kit (for MK4) - Shipping soon?
Unfortunately this is how Prusa is working. I do have the same situation and I'm waiting desperately for the MMU3 for my MK4 (which is working fine). There are a couple of requests to ship the MMU3 for the MK4 (upgrade or new) as it is now because it is working quite well and everything could be improved by new plastic parts or SW. And the community is helping to fix the problems Prusa is not getting forward (happend on the MMU2 the same way).
So Prusa (if you read this): make an option for the MK4 user to wait or ship directly. I would deal in my voucher for having it right now.
RE: Original Prusa MMU3 upgrade kit (for MK4) - Shipping soon?
After screwing with an Mk3/mmu2 for years, and now having a XL5, use skip the MMUs. Just from a waste perspective the XL wins. The speed makes it a n0-brainer. And my sanity and time is worth the price delta.

Its a (effectively) a coupon code you received in your email, subject "Your unique voucher from your MMU3 purchase" -- I received my code on November 10th.
My MK4/MMU3 (kits) were a birthday present ordered in September. I was hoping to put the both together at once, but I decided to go ahead and receive the MK4 kit, since yes, Prusa had a fair pile of my money, and will end up having to pull it back apart for the MMU3. (I've done the MK3/MMU2 thing before, I disliked taking apart a working printer in order to install the MMU - the MMU2 mostly worked adequately I got temperatures tuned, and the filament detection mod performed.)

What disassembly is required to install the MMU3 on the MK4? about 5 minutes. I can't believe that there are people not using the MK4 because of this reason, That is just insane lazy.
Design it, Print it!

@David Holland
the MMU3 on the Mk4 is way easier than installing on mk3

@Pat -- No, I haven't put my MK4 together because I only got it a few days ago, have family heading into town in the near future, and don't want a mess all over my desk. I don't hurry when assembling kits, in general, as the assembly is as enjoyable as the use (to me), so I expect to take several days to most of a week.
@Joan -- Good to know -- Thanks, I hadn't read the build documentation yet. As I recall, the MK3/MMU2 required fairly extensive (IMO) disassembly of the hot end.

Joan, so is that to say you have an MMU3 / MK4? Or is this just from looking at the manuals or something for when they do ship?
It was my understanding (which may be false) that they still haven't released an MMU3 for the MK4 into the wild.

That's not it at all. There are people who aren't using the MK4 because there is no corresponding MMU3. Kinna hard to do multi mat prints without it, and in order to still be able to print, that means staying with the MK3.x / MMU2. Has nothing to do with being lazy, has everything to do with not being able to get one.
And if all you print are multi mat prints, there's zero point in installing the upgrade and having no ability to print at all.
Believe me I would far prefer to be doing the MK3->MK4 upgrade right now but not at the expense of not being able to print at all.

Thanks, found it with the help of your included subject. Mine showed up on the 10th as well and was buried in the deluge of 270+ emails for the day.

The last couple minutes of today's Prusa Podcast live shows mmu3 working on mk4.

Put in a good word for us poor mortals who have an unused MMU3 unit in our garage after the transition to MK4(MK3.9)

Those of you with a spare mmu3. Do you have the mk4 wires and filament sensor?

where are the cables and sensor for MMU3 and MK4? There are none in the store.
RE:
I watched the video from the show and saw the MMU3 running on the MK4. I’m, like many of you, are waiting to see it run on my MK4. I trust that Prusa has a team working nonstop on making that happen.
However, am I the only one put off seeing Mikolas and Josef’s seemingly cavalier attitude towards the situation?

I really wish they didn’t waste their monthly blog post on trade shows like this. There are plenty of people that are covering those things. They really don’t have any kind of special access or input on it. This is the second month in a row they’ve done this, what we’ve lacked is any kind of insight in the direct actions internal the Prusa to address many of the issues that are out there. A nd I’m not saying they aren’t doing anything, but I’ll be nice to know more about some of the stuff they’ve done on the XL, multi material front, and as you’ve mentioned here, dig into the MMU3 and Mark4 integration.
Feel free to do a live stream from a tradeshow, but I don’t have it take the place of the actual discussion of your stuff. We’re going to end up going almost a quarter without having a sit down and discussion during a launches of some of the most critical printers for Prusa ever.
