New to mmu

New to mmu

Hey there I looked but didn't find anything on this, but how steep is the learning curve on the mmu? I've printed on the mk3s+ and mk4 for 3 years and wanted to get into colored prints just not sure how easy it is to setup and am looking for opinions.  Thank you

The experience is much improved with the MMU3. The kit is not too challenging, as long as you follow all the good advice for keeping filament flow paths clean and snag free. I would do it again.

I second Lynn, especially the ability to make MultiMaterialSupports with the MMU is a great upgrade I don't want to miss.

The sensors may cause some errors in the first time after installing. The MMU will be picky when the sensors are dialed in too sensitive or too less sensitive.

Here are the most common problems, they are not very challenging if you know where to search:

Filament stuck BEFORE reaching Pulley -> PTFE not inserted correctly into MMU inlets or tension of the tensionscrews incorrect

Filament stuck inside hotend when unloading -> hotend temp too low

Filament does not reach the extruder but is detected -> filament sensor too sensitive or extruder tension wrong 

Selector hangs on filament during change -> Filament sensor in MMU is not dialed in correctly or hotend temperature is too high

I would advice you to generally dial in the temp of your most used filaments again to get good looking filament tips.

The other error I found is MMU3 signals you have run out of filament when it hasn't.   Stopping and asking you to eject/load filament.  This is caused by the MMU3 superFinda sensor being too high.   Mine calibrated OK, but had to move it down a small amount to be reliable when everything was moving and shaking.  

As noted, make sure the filament flows well.  Minimize junctions and sharp bends.  More notes than you may want on the MMU3/MK4.
