MMU3 on MK3.5 vs MK4

When I ordered my MMU3 (long ago) I was planning on connecting it to my MK4 figuring the speed would help a little with print time.  Now that the details of the MK3.5 are out I am thinking I am going to upgrade my MK3S+ (with Revo) to MK3.5.  The question is, which is a better partner for the MMU3 and is there likely to be any real difference in kits?

Kits likely to be the same:
+ Same wiring to the mainboard
- Differences in filament sensor for the different tool head

MK4 vs MK3.5
+ MK4 may have cleaner tip forming (due to smaller hot end mass?)
- MK4 may have wear and tear issues on the cast part
+ MK3 is a known platform

RE: MMU3 on MK3.5 vs MK4

I've gone the MK3.5+MMU3 route on one of my machines simply because I have an immense amount of spare V6 hotends and nozzles and heater cartridges and thermistors and the list goes on and on and on and on. I purposely kept aside one of my MK3S+ machines just for this reason, all of my other machines have been upgraded to the MK3.9 iteration.

But If I were starting from scratch then without question I would go the MK4 and MMU3.

RE: MMU3 on MK3.5 vs MK4

The MMU3 for the Mk3S has identical plastics and electronics to the MMU3 for the Mk4
the Mk3 has the same hot end as the Mk3.5
the Mk3.5 has the same controller as the Mk4
So  I would expect the MMU3 to work fine, on the Mk3.5.

However you have a Revo, there has been a little compatibility issue between revo and recent firmware... which is, I believe being addressed

I Suspect by the time you get your equipment, it will be all sorted.

RE: MMU3 on MK3.5 vs MK4

I dont want to hijack the thread, but i'm swaying between getting the mmu3 for one of my mk3s+ (for multicolor prints) and later upgrading for 3.5 with what i understand i just the need for a new cable mmu3 to mk3.5 or mk4?

I have a mini 0.4 tuned for pla and another mk3s+ 0.8 tuned for petg. The last mk3s+ is 0.6 that i should use with the mmu3.

Thoughts on my thinkingprocess? Or do i simply overthink stuff?

Also, Prusa has hinted that there will be one or more updated printed parts for the MMU3 for the MK4, but we won't know for sure which ones until it's officially released. Well, the beta testers might know but I haven't seen any of them mention it.

RE: MMU3 on MK3.5 vs MK4

After digging around some more, getting the mmu3 fo rmy mk3s+ first, and then later upgrading to the 3.5 if the need comes around, i would only need this; https://www.prusa3d.com/en/product/mmu3-printer-cable-for-mk3-5-2/ cable to the xbuddy board.

So i think i'm goint for the mmu3 for one of my mk3s until i get learning good with multicolors

Thought i'd update the thread if anyone else is in search of the same info.

RE: MMU3 on MK3.5 vs MK4

Just did the 3.5 upgrade in the last couple of days for a working MK3S with REVO& MMU3 (No issues with build nor REVO working in latest Firmware)

The upgrade (3.5) instructions tell you to use a Mk4 printer profile for the Prusa slicer which don't (yet) include any MMU3 profiles.  There is however a 3.5 MMU only profile for the slicer which I have used.

You may need to be careful if you use this 3.5 profile as I found that most of the linear print speeds (Print settings tab) have been substantially increased (probably a default from a Mk4/3.9 Nextruder derivation). These speeds did cause problems for my print quality (under extrusion, crashes) so I did lower them closer to what I had under my MK3S/S+ profiles and all was good again (so far!).

I have only had a quick look at the Mk4 slicer profiles but while not as bad as the 3.5MMU profile seem to have slightly too high settings on them

Also the Max Volumetric speed setting in the Filament Settings tab (advanced) seems too high for me for a Mk3S/+ extruder (V6 or REVO) and a 0.4 [email protected] layer height. It is set at 15 for PLA, I would suggest something 12 or less would be a better limit .

There have been new printed parts for the MMU3, for the mk4 recently...
don't rush to print, mmu3 parts yet!

I'd heard there would be new parts, so I've held off printing. I will be excited to see them released.
