MMU3 Cable Extender
Hi all,
I'm keen to mount my MMU3 outside of my Lack enclosure for easy access. To do this I think I'm going to need to extend the cable from the MMU3 to my MK4.
Does anyone know if there's a ready-made lead that would extend either end of the MMU3 connector cable? It uses two different connectors but I'm pretty ambivalent which end to extend.
I know the connector types from this post but not sure what to search for re. existing suitable cables.
Thanks in advance,
A
RE: MMU3 Cable Extender
Cut in the middle and solder in new wires. Heat shrink and if you want, snag some wire loom to bundle the whole thing together.
I extended mine and used the wire I had on hand, 22 AWG but it seemed a bit thicker than what it spliced into. Probably not a bad practice since we're increasing transmission distance, but who knows if it would be a deal breaker either way.
I wanted to use CAT 5e cable that I had on hand, but I couldn't find my punchdown tool, so that idea got scrapped.
Good luck =)
RE: MMU3 Cable Extender
Hi
Did some of you have already extend their MMU3 to MK3S+ Einsy cable for a MK3S+ inside OPE, with the MMU3 mounted above, on the backdoor of the Coreboxx ?
First option is to extend it by adding extension wires in the middle and connect it both sides, using solder sleeves with heat. Is there a max length,n as I will max 50cm, rather 30cm ?
Second option is to make this plug & play for maintenance or any others needs.
I saw the use of M16 8 pins connectors here https://www.printables.com/model/104469-big-einsy-case-plug-play, and I wonder to do something similar with
- 1 cable from the MMU3 to the rear or bottom of the Coreboxx with 1 M16 connector
- 1 cable extension from the Coreboxx to the rear or top of the Prusa Enclosure with 1 M16 connecto each side
then 1 cable extension from the Prusa Enclosure with 1 M16 connector each side.
Feel free to provide feedback and suggestions as I am not sure if too many connectors won't affect the signal ?
