Upgrading MK3S with MMU2S to MK3.5S with MMU3

I am a but uncertain here.  I upgraded my MK3S (not +) to MK3.5S today, and it prints fine.  I also have the MMU3 that I am getting ready to install to upgrade the MMU2S (which is currently disconnected, although it still has the MMU2S extruder installed).

Now as part of upgrading the MK3.5S, at no point are you making changes to the extruder, so this is now a MK3.5S with a MK3S/MMU2S extruder, not a MK3.5S with a MK3S+/MMU2S extruder.  The MMU3 upgrade says it is not compatible with the MK3S only the MK3S+.  It doesn't say why, and that sure would be useful to understand.  I believe the MMU2S upgraded the extruder in ways that may actually be part of what the MK3S+ does, but I am not certain of that.

Figuring out which (if any) things I actually need to change on the extruder before starting the MMU3 upgrade would be nice to avoid having to do it twice.
Obviously the Y rod holders and bearing clips are not important and I did actually change the to a super pinda that I had around while installing the MK3.5S upgrade in case it cared.

So given I upgraded to a MK3.5S and the MMU3 says it is compatible with the MK3.5S, but is supposedly not compatible with a MK3S, is my particular version of the MK3.5S with MMU2S extruder compatible with the MMU3 or not or do I need to swap up a few parts in the extuder first?
