Layer shift

I printed  Prusa Bear MK3/S Einsy Case - MMu Remix by UnknownUser | Download free STL model | PrusaPrinters

Set up to print in orange and black.  Main case had a layer shift of about 3mm, just about usable, so did not think too much of it.

Cover had a shift about 5mm, rendering it  useless.  Tried again, layer shift 15mm.  All shifts in x axis.  Checked all belts and pulleys etc.  nothing snagged or loose.  In normal mode etc.

Printed the bottom part only in orange - so no purge block and there was no layer shift, perfect print.

The prints with layer shift are close to perfect except for the mess caused by the layer shift.

Printed the cover this time rotated 90°.  Shift now about 3mm on y axis.  It seems when printing with MMU the gcode is driving the printer head beyond the limit of the build plate and the crash detection is not picking this up.

RE: Layer shift

I get these periodically.  It can be caused by several causes.  Check your grub screws.

I have checked the grub screws and all points in the layer shift article.  The layer shift is somehow related to MMU and the gcode/tool path.  I wondered if anyone ever saw (and solved) this before?

@cosmic-engineer

Ok.  I have had a couple of layer shifts due to the slicer.  Make sure you do not have stacked objects in slicer.

Thanks Chuck,  the items are sliced one part at a time and printed separately.  2 parts with MMU exhibit layer shift that follows the longest dimension of the part.  Part that does not use MMU functionality has no layer shift.

sorry I meant the model was sliced in PrusaSlicer version 2.2.o +Win 64 and not cura.

RE: Layer shift

There is a setting called “no sparse layers” in the multiple extruders tab under print settings in Prusa slicer. If it is turned on without your knowing there can be a collision causing a layer shift in the x or y direction. If it is turned on with your knowing it can still cause collisions if you are not slicing carefully.

Thanks for adding to the discussion Ryan.  As far as I know the no sparse layers was turned off.
