I was thinking about this the other day as well.

How about sequential printing with Auto depletion.

If it works the way I imagine it would - it would complete entire object/models, using up all filament on a roll or rolls of filament b4 moving on to the next object or model. This would be excellent for functional parts say for instance where color doesn't really matter just structural soundness is important. And you'd always barring a failure have either all complete models or just one incomplete model.

Or you could definitely print models that require multiple rolls of filament but with unattended switching of filament rolls.

That would be cool.

I posted a thread asking what AutoDepletion was. It seems like no one at Prusa knows the function, because none answered. It's pretty easy to get in context here.

I tried it a couple of times, and it works, but either I am overseeing something, or it is not as simple as in the handbook.

In the printer there is an option in the menu: "auto deplete", it must be switched to "on"

For a single material print, you select the filament as usual, start with the spool you want to use up first. When it is depleted, the printer moves to a purge position, switches to the other spool and purges material, much like when you request a "change filament" from the menu. The exception is, that no user interaction is needed, so you might find some filament in the corner of you print, or attached from the object you are printing.

Now the part comes that puzzles me: the handbook says, that you can then replace the filament that remained and load a new spool during the print, so that after finishing spool 5, it will continue with the newly loaded filament in channel 1.

The problem I have is that the remaining filament is stuck halve way in the white PTFE. How do you pull it out during a print?

I could only come up with opening the MMU and pulling the filament with pliers from the loaded position. Seems cumbersome. If the white PTFE tubes were dividable, or shorter, it could work.

Removing the remaining filament after the print is cumbersome as well, then I could remove the orange PTFE and push with new filament the remain part out of the selector and pull it out. No chance with flex with that.

Any hints as to what I am overlooking here?

I am thinking of cutting the the white PTFE close to the MMU and putting a two sided Festo coupler there. hope someone comes up with a better solution.
