Will ColorPrint modified GCodes be supported by the MMU?

Will ColorPrint modified GCodes be supported by the MMU?

If I add colors to a sliced gcode file, will the MMU2 honor these color changes, or do the color changes come solely from different tool paths in the initial model?

I.e., will just the first filament roll in the MMU keep unloading and asking for new color to be loaded?

Hi Martin,

the MMU Colour change is caused by the tool change command in Slic3r and the additional gcodes are added into the Gcodes before the printer gets the gcode!. whereas the M600 is actioned in the firmware of the printer whilst the gcode is running!
I have MMUv1, M600 works with that.
It's almost certain that the M600 code will work with the printer but I expect you will have to pull the filament out of the MMU and push the new filament through the MMU2 into the extruder

I thought I noticed somewhere something saying not to colorprint a mmu gcode file.. I will start looking but it might have been on the color print page.

How to use Color Print
1.Upload .gcode above to add or edit color changes.
2.Choose whether to use Multi Material print or not.
3.Add as many color changes as you want in your final model
4.Set the heights in mm where color change will occur.
5.Download changed .gcode file.
6.Please note:
Do not use Color Print if your .gcode file already contains extruder change from your slicing software.

Thanks for the replies. I did play with the ColorPrint in the past on a stock GCode file and it worked perfect.
Are there any recommended tutorials out there that go through the process in Slic3r? I want to get up to speed on stuff before mine arrives (Xmas time???)

its for the old mmu but it's the same. dont worry about changing printer types.

it will let you see how its done, you can setup your slicers so you can see the different colors (add extruders and change the color preview) its fun.

I have been manually changing filaments but it gets old. (add M600 in custom Gcode tool change) BUT it's tricky and I dont advice anyone thing over like 10 layers high) I haven't been able to get wipe towers to work so things printed atart to get ugly after around layer 6 (globs or plastic because it doesn't wipe)

it's fun to at least see it in the colors in slicer, I do not think its a fair assessment of it printing until we get our MMUs

I'm guessing on how to get each of these separate STLs comes down to the modeling tool you're using. In the case of Fusion 360, I think that comes down to different bodies/assemblies in the project. Still learning that.

With Fusion360, I usually create a component for each different material. The main reason being that a component can have multiple bodies, and it's convenient for exporting all the bits of a single color to a single STL. The "Component Color Cycling" also gives a quick-and-dirty way to see that you've put the different materials where you meant to.

i use 3Ds max, i would think it's about the same. if you make say a face with glasses. the face is exported to 1 stl. then the glasses another. and from what I've noticed. if 2 meshes occupy the same space, I've always subtractive booleaned them. start simple. it is fun.

Peter, I gave this a run last night and, boy is that convenient. So nice to have a model broken apart like that. I still have a few dead components in the project, but I think that is because I went through the bodies->component step incorrectly. I'll try again this weekend and tidy things up.
