does not do the colour change

Hi there,

layer high is 0.2mm. Doing up to 5mm high one color and starting at 5.2mm with color 2 - it does work.

Now I include at the beginning color 1 and have color 2 around at the bottom. It does everything correct until 5mm and does not do the color change anymore - I have tried different Slicer since 2021. Any Idea why it's not changing anymore - thanks a lot. My point of view is, that it's a slicer problem.

regards Stefan

The ability to change the extruders is disabled because that would cause issues with multiple objects on the plater, we might change that condition so that if there is only one object it would be allowed, but that's for another day 🙂

You can do the desired change in two ways, one is to use the Multimaterial painting tool and paint the top of the model and the second is using a modifier, placed to the desired height and then setting up the desired extruder to that modifier, see the attached file.

if you can imagine it - if you can design it - you should print it!

RE:

In your screenshot all the parts in the list at right have warning triangles next to them indicating there is something wrong with the file(s).

They will need to be fixed before you have any chance of printing them.

If you would like us to examine the models and your settings save your project (File Menu) and zip it, post the zip here.

Cheerio,

Hi Diem,

thanks for your time first of all.

I made a very simple test piece. Using the amf file, having no colour inside and adding a colour change at a certain high - is not a problem. But if I use the colour inside - it does not do it. I look forward to your reply.

thank you

Your .3mf file loads and slices correctly - 'though possibly not as you intended.

Your .AMF file is not properly formed and has a great many open edges - this must be addressed in your design sofware, you may have a wrong setting; the file would be OK as a 3D game element but is not printable...

Your .3mf contains 2 parts, the body and the text and if you select different filaments for each the preview shows them nicely.  However it looks like you are trying to do a colour change by height as well as a change by part, am I correct?

Change by height is not really intended for MMU use, it is an easy way to get some colour changes in a vanilla printer but to the MMU software it looks like you are staying with the same tool/filament.  While there are workarounds the easiest if you are already designing for the MMU is to make your top rim a third part and assign a different tool/filament.

Cheerio,

thanks for your effort.

But .... having one part adding a second colour at the frame start works with the mmu2

having two parts (the text inside the block) and adding the colour change at the frame start does not work. Does not make sense to me.

In reality I would have text and the frame. It might be 15-20 parts and than it takes too long time to select everything, whats why I made the test text attached to the line to make it one part. I expected that the top is as easy select-able as the bottom one. I even thought of coping the colour change G-codes into my new program, but it purges into air than. It would be even possible with purging into the material. Am I trying to push the limits too much? Some parts I do have closed to 200 colour changes.

Thanks again Diem
