Selector motor switched off by itself after some time
Encountered this a few time. Usually after a few hours of printing.
It seems to occur randomly.
The selector motor just powered off by itself.
So that when the last filament has been unloaded, the selector did not move to the next position, but the next filament would continue to load forward.
You could see the next filament protruding out in the air for a distance while the selector was still in the old position....
The motor is cold to touch (others motors are warm), and I can turn the threaded rod freely. That means the step motor has no electric power.
The only way to continue is to press reset or power off and on the machine. But then the print would be lost.
Anyone have the same problem ? Cause?
Re: Selector motor switched off by itself after some time
ive had it stop moving a few times on me but I chalked them up to printing a 2nd time without cycling power.
so you are not alone. I think ive seen other reports.
I have not investigated at all yet. but forsure the ugly orange tube selector goes to the proper spot. and I THINK from what I remember the filament that gets pushed out had nothing to do with what it was printing at the time. for me at least.
I have a Prusa,therefore I research.
Re: Selector motor switched off by itself after some time
In the few months I have been using this setup, I have not experienced this issue at all.
Therefore I would suggest that it's more likely to be hardware-related than firmware. As the motor stops completely and is cold, it's not likely to be a cable or motor problem (unless it's 2 or more cables/coils), which only leaved the connector or the board. And I guess you already checked the connector?
I think I would be talking to support to see if they would be willing to send a replacement board. If you do, then give them a link to this thread.

Re: Selector motor switched off by itself after some time
I think mine at least is a glitch, seems to happen when I would be fighting with my filaments (haven't seen it in awhile)
but it memory serves, to me it seemed like a (filament load issue) and then freaks out. next time I notice it ill pay more attention.
I think it was always preceded with load issue and using the MMU buttons. in my case.
I swear I have only seen filament 2 do it.

Yes, but the OP is saying that the motor is not powered at all, which seems to be verified by it being cold. So it is unlikely to be firmware. I don't believe that it's possible for the firmware to turn off the motor, only to reduce the current to minimal levels and it would still retain some heat.

Re: Selector motor switched off by itself after some time
could be a bad stepper motor also. I've seen some weird failures on them.
