Move selector when can't load filament?

Hi everyone, is there any way to move the selector when it fails to load the filament (and is stuck)?

So basically today happened that in lane 2, 4cm of filament got pushed out of the ptfe tube. The selector moved from 1 to 3 and bent the filament between the selector and the main body of the MMU unit (where the 5 filaments get out). That filament prevented the correct load of the filament on lane 3 (it was just in fron of it). I pulled the filament opening the top "door" as much as I could but roughly 2 cm were stuck between the parts.

I don't really understand why when there's a failed load, the selector stays in the same position. It would make more sense to me if it could move out of the way so people can check what's the problem. Or at least would be nice to be able to move to the next (or previous) lane to clear the path.

Am I missing anything? I watched the troubleshooting videos and there was no mentions on how to move the selector when stuck.

I have the mmu2s + mk3s

thanks 🙂

RE: Move selector when can't load filament?

If printer for example is using filament 1 then number 2 wont be pushed out by itself.
But yes filament can get stuck between the selector and where the 5 filaments come out (filament can get get stuck in the blade), it should not normally do this so i think you may have some other problem.
Also MMU2S firmware gives next to no feedback about what's going on other than blink lights and your left to guess, something that have caused me A LOT of issues, would be very nice with some feedback about what stepper motor is involved in a problem.

Anyway, i would suggest you check the two sensors, finda sensor on MMU and the filament sensor in the extruder that they both work reliably.
Also tiny leftover filament strands from the tip can prevent the steel ball from dropping in the finda sensor causing incorrect behavior.
Even something as small as a misshaped tip (small blob at the tip) can cause a false trigger of filament sensor in extruder leading to load/unload issues.

Also note that if the MMU gets reset for whatever reason during a print, all bets are off and bad things can happen with the MMU, for example incorrectly moving selector jamming the filament between mmu and selector.

To answer your initial question, no i don't think you can move it, the firmware on the MMU is not too smart.
You can reset the MMU using the small button on the right side but this can lead to other problems, mainly MMU and printer itself getting out of sync and doing bad things.

Thanks for your reply.

What's the best place to ask for this feature to be added? I think it would be pretty useful to everyone 🙂
