MMU2S Firmware Update Connection

Maybe I'm just missing some info but does the MMU2S unit need to be powered up and connected to the printer to update the firmware or can I just connect the USB? I have it disconnected right now and wanted to avoid moving the printer to my desk for an update if I don't have to.

Yes the mmu2 needs to be powered on to flash firmware
