IR Filament sensor always reporting filament

I have a MK3s with the MMU2S and am trying to calibrate the filament sensor on the extruder.  Per the instructions, I am going to the Support-Sensor info screen.  The "Fil.sensor" displays 1 which indicates  there is filament in the extruder. The sensor is constantly reporting there is filament present even when I remove the sensor from the extruder.  The only way I can get the "Fil. sensor" to report zero is by unplugging the filament sensor.  I have repeatedly checked the connections on the board. I have also replaced the sensor and also the Einsy Rambo board and still the same result.

Any ideas what is causing this issue and how I can resolve it?

Check for physical interference.  A slightly distorted component or a whisker of stringing can be enough to give a false positive.

stupid mistake

Fixed the issue.  I checked the connection on the Einsy board many time but did not check the orientation of the connector on the sensor.  Once that connector was oriented properly it all worked like magic.
