RE: Firmware update problem after MMU3 upgrade
I AM RIPPING MY HAIR OUT!
I recently wanted to get my MMU2S back up and running, and started by updating the firmware on the printer to the latest version, and ran into the bootloader issue when I went to update the MMU firmware. Here is what I have tried so far:
-using different USB cords-using different computers (both Mac and PC)
-making sure Prusa Slicer is up to date-rolling back to older versions of printer firmware and trying to flash the corresponding MMU firmware
-pressing the reset button on the MMU during the flashing process
-doing a hard factory reset on the MMU
-starting the flash process with the printer off and then immediately turning the printer on
-turning the printer on and then immediately starting the flash process.
After communicating back and forth with Prusa support for awhile, I bought a new control board and wires because I assumed it was a physical issue with the board's USB port, and now with a new board the exact same issue is happening where it says:
"Flashing Original Prusa Multi Material 2 & 3 Upgrade (bootloader), looking for VID/PID 0x2c99/3 or 0x2c99/4 ...
The Original Prusa Multi Material 2 & 3 Upgrade (bootloader) device was not found.
The Original Prusa Multi Material 2 & 3 Upgrade (bootloader) device could not have been found
Has anyone solved this? I feel like I have tried everything.
RE: Firmware update problem after MMU3 upgrade
TL;DR - Same issue here.
I am literally in the same position as pretty much everyone else in the thread. Issue first started after upgrading the MK3S+ to the new 3.14 firmware. From there the unit complains that the MMU is incompatible and needs the latest version. Unplug the USB to the MK3S Rambo and plug in the micro-USB to the MMU. Select the MMU firmware and flash...
The Original Prusa Multi Material 2 & 3 Upgrade (bootloader) device was not found.

I have tried multiple things but had an urgent print so I downgraded to 3.13 just so I could get the print running and figured I would research while it was printing. (Printer is working great BTW.) Troubleshooting done thus far in this order before downgrading:
- using different USB cords
- using different computers (Ubuntu 22.04, 24.04, and Windows 11 Pro)
- verifying Prusa Slicer is up to date (2.9)
- pressing the reset button on the MMU during the flashing process
- pressing the reset button on the MMU first and then starting the flashing process
- starting the flash process with the printer off and then turning the printer on
- turning the printer on and then starting the flash process during boot
- rolling back to older versions of printer firmware and trying to flash the corresponding MMU firmware first
I have not tried the following:
- Rolling back to an older version of Prusa Slicer
- Doing a hard factory reset on the MMU
With all of this said I went a bit further into the connectivity bit since I had access to different systems. The MMU board does not have a data connection for some reason. See the `lsuseb -v` output here verbose_usb
So, what do we do from here? Honestly, I don't know. When this print finishes (36 hours remaining from the time of this post), I will try again and update the post. With that said though... (@sierrasandison) said they got a new board and the issue was still present, so I am not very optimistic.
