Enable cutting?

Do I have to enable cutting in any way? Running with latest (or at least not older than a few months) software.

Of course it cuts fine when moving left, but I can't get it to cut the rightmost (for whatever value of rightmost in the current print) setup. It doesn't move one step more and then back left to cut either when it's done with that filament or before.

Yes, if you want to enable cutting, you need to do that in the settings of your printer.

Thanks. Poking at it now, but it doesn't seem to make a difference? What is the supposed behavior (is there a test I can try?)? I assume I'm doing something wrong.

...Of course it cuts fine when moving left, but ..

What do you mean by that? Cutting, even when enabled in the printer menu is only supposed to happen on triple load failure. Your posts sounds like your MMU is cutting like every time or so...

There's no actuator on the knife. A move left over anything would cut any strands that are still not retracted.

But I see, cutting is only supposed to be done on a failed move. I thought it would be done on every move to remove strands. All that needs to be done for that is to move one more tick right and then left again on the rightmost filament.

Yes, you can test the cutting feature by removing the PTFE tube form the selector, resulting in load failure due to the filament never reaching the extruder. After 3 fails the MMU will retract the filament leaving it sticking out a bit and cut it before retrying to load. You can see in in this video at around 25 minute mark...

I see. I thought it would always remove the little strand string. I guess I have to request that feature.

(I get those because I'm printing with two different temperatures, and it seems to then make them on both filaments.)

You should be able to reduce the little strings or even get rid of them completely by tuning your settings, especially temperature and cooling moves. There is a how to somewhere in the help section...
