Cooling fan for pulley body selector stepper
I don't know if this is a good idea or a bad idea but i tossed this together to try out.
printing it in PETG should be done in a 1 1/2 hours for a test fit.
the idea is clip a cooling fan on the selector motor as it does get quite warm in a long print.

fit and it is working, i slipped it on while the machine is running.
its a 40mm 12volt fan with a separate power supply, i changed the mount to work with the 42mm Prusa LDO motors.

also after the photo i moved the fan 90 degrees so it blows away from the bed, just in case.

I am thinking of doing that, but I would use the one I use on my extruder. the motor isn't getting that hot, but issues seem to pop up on filament 1 more often then others, its about the only thing I was thinking of changing.
I have a Prusa,therefore I research.

funny thing even after an hour or two with the fan blowing on it the stepper isn't that much cooler. the fan is blowing quite well moving air around the motor. i can only imagine how much heat this stepper must of put out before the last 2 firmware revisions tried to address it.
i added another fan on the selector stepper because why not.

i found my infrared thermometer, i forget i had it stashed around here somewhere... the thing has about a 10F degree drift.
so for fun i took a reading on my MK2 steppers they are reading 110-114F + 10 F drift
the MK3 motors are 93-120F with the selector steppers currently under 100F mid 90s.
i shut the fan off to let the drum heat up and see where it falls.
now the Fan was also allowing vibration to run through the frame.
again this is all an experiment.
i'll let the machine warm back up again without the fan and see what the temps are reading.
the 120F+10F drift was the extruder motor which was by far the hottest. the Mk2s extruder stepper was cooler by comparison.
i also tossed my octoprint back in the MK3 for the camera feed.

just gave it a check the Selector drum motor was hitting 115F was reading mid 90sF with the fan, the Z steppers are hitting 101F the MMU other 2 motors are staying in the mid 90sF. the extruder is around 120F.
now with the MK2s hitting pretty much these numbers then the FAN on that MMU2 motor is really not doing much and the other 2 motors are lower anyway. the fan adds vibration though the chassis so i guess it is just a waste of time since the motors are not any hotter then the uncooled motors on the other parts of the printer. so when the print is done i'll remove it from my machine and use the 12V hook up i left for some LEDs
