Why do I have purge strings in space?

I've done a few multi-color prints in the past but for some reason this one leaves some "purge" floating in the air.  Not sure why.  Can provide source files for a bug fix if anyone knows.  I didn't have this issue with other models and wondering if it has something to do with my material setup?

I've seen the same thing, it happens when the purge tower is shorter than your object.   All your color changes are on the first few layers, once it gets to the solid color there's no more need to purge, so it stops printing the purge block.     Seems like there's a bug where the very last purge extrusion isn't turned off so you get a bit of air printing.    It's the last thing to be printed and it's above the purge block, so it's harmless.

i think that last purge is to form the tip of the filament before unloading it.

it's intentional - to pump the remaining hot plastic out before unloading the remaining filament at the end of the job
